Enzo Fernandez - Now sold to Man City

Adam Clery did a pretty good video on Fernandez's strengths and weaknesses. The TLDR is, he's good on the ball but a liability off it, and maybe Elliot Anderson will do all the "dog work" that Fernadez can't/won't do. I personally think his weaknesses significantly outweigh his strengths for us and he just seems like a right twat, so I'm glad I won't have to endure seeing him playing every week anymore.

I've said it before, but it baffles me how differently most Chelsea supporters see his "talent" compared to (what feels like) a general consensus among "football people", pundits and the media, who seem to consider him an "elite" midfielder. 125 million is ridiculous for such a flawed player; the market is completely insane and something has to give.

It is mixed, as I have heard a few who say he isn't a top midfielder and the price is way too high. But then you get the lazy pundits who probably haven't seen him play that often and just look at the fact he has now been sold for over £100m twice, has won a WC and a CWC, scores a few goals and think "he must be good".

I have heard quite a few City fans not over impressed with the signing and look forward to a lot more calling the phone-ins with absolute rage after watching how slow he is and how little he contributes...................!!

I think that's got to be a part of it. People who know he cost the Earth and don't watch him for 90 mins every week, but just notice his name pop up fairly often on the scoresheet and see his actually quite good goal/assist stats. TV highlights packages will emphasize his goals and assists, but may not show all the times he gets dribbled past through the middle of midfield (this is one of the major weaknesses that Adam Clery highlights in his video) like there's nobody there.

I will also be following his progress (and Maresca's) at city this season with some interest. He's already generally disliked throughout England, so it won't take much for the Manc fans to turn on him, which would also reflect on Maresca since he's Maresca's man.

Enzo's heat map for the PL last season pretty much confirms the eye test that he spent most of the season hiding in left attacking midfield, getting in the way of Cucurella and the left winger

That looks pretty good to me for what we want alongside Caicedo in central midfield (assuming Caicedo is fit of course !)

 
There was already bad blood, and it was all caused by them in the first place when they tapped up Maresca and derailed our season. Well the BlueCo twats allowed them to do it again, so f**k City. We should have told them to f**k off. I don't dislike Enzo so much that I would f**k up our season just to get him out of the club, that's absurd thinking. We have nothing at the club better than him, even with his limitations, and now we have lost his goals too.

Enzo played often in the half space off the left. I’d argue Rogers will play in that space this season and get goals. We’ve had the sum of f**k all from our more traditional left wingers recently.

Enzo didn’t work in the pivot and left Caicedo exposed. That’s a fairly universal opinion. Where would you play him under Alonso?

I believe we are in a better place as a club with him gone regardless of us not getting another midfielder in.

 
Enzo was and is a rat. The fans turned on him when his true colours emerged. The fee we paid did not match his ability, not even close. Ramires was a better servant and performer for us than this fool.

Don’t underestimate how important it is to rid a dressing room of a character like this. We are well shot of him and got our money back so win win for us.

Far too many just see a player as to how they play but character and impact on others is something that far too often is overlooked.

Man City have had their pants pulled down and to be honest with hindsight we had ours pulled down by Benfica.

That said his true colours seem to have become evident since he turned up in the PL.

It’s clear now why he was suspended by the club and others weren’t . Put quite simply he agitates, is disrespectful and thinks he is bigger than the club.

Having had cancer I don’t like the word when it comes to describing a human being but Enzo Fernandez is an absolute shi* and we are well shot of him.

He made it clear that he wants to live in Madrid and didn’t like London well shi* lets see how long it is till you disrupt City and want out.

I rarely, no never, boo a n ex player who returns but may well break the habit when he trots out at SB

Keeping him would not have gone well.

For all the noise, for all the rumour Cities interest didn’t manifest itself in a bid until transfer deadline day minus 1 .

We didn’t buy Barco to sit on the bench picking his nose maybe Henderson will not feature as much as he did at Brentford but he offers far more to the team that Enzo.

Enzo was only truly effective in terms of getting close to being a top player when playing in advance of our holding midfielders but I am far from sure that he would fit the set up that it seems Alonso wants with the players now at the managers disposal

For me his own true contribution is that his trading had led to a massive plus on the balance sheet.

We are well rid

 
How on earth can we find a genuine replacement for Fernandez? Some one who has no real pace, can’t tackle, is unable to unpick defences, no leadership skills, folds under pressure, way overpriced, no team spirit, racist … It’s a tough act to follow but if anyone can find such a gem we can rely on our intrepid SD’s!

Spent a good amount of time thinking how we’d benefit from a Ramires right now. We’ve had elite mids in Maka, Kante, Frank, Essien. We’ve had top tier in Mikel, Ramires type players also. We need that back.

Fernandez will belong to that odd modern class of player who accumulates massive transfer fees but divides opinion at every club - Morata, Lukaku, de Ligt etc. Even his absolute best output doesn't outweigh the baggage that comes with him.
