As we're all getting older, I'm finding that players who I enjoyed watching from my formative era watching the game are now sadly passing by and thought it might be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to them instead of one of their own.

I will start with Frank Worthington who sadly passed away today. A real maverick character who had great skill on the pitch. RIP Frank

Excellent player. Deserves to mentioned alongside the other 70s mavericks like Currie and Bowles. That goal has to be one of the best of the decade.

Good idea for a thread,

Sad to hear the passing of Frank, he certainly was a player of his time, wonderful to watch RIP.

and while we are it putting the rivalry aside it was sad to hear the passing of Peter Lorimer last week RIP.

Nice touch @charierre.

Yep, another great footballer from my childhood sadly departs. Modern football is lacking the entertainers and characters like Worthington. Such a talent and a funny guy too.

RIP Elvis.

Yep this was a special time to watch football. A period when most teams had an entertaining maverick style player, not just the top teams. These players would week in week out produce special moments and were worth the entrance fee alone. Frank was definitely one of these,a pure entertainer. RIP.

And yes I agree this was one of the goals of the 70s.

Before my time but he seemed like the kind of guy who would down 20 pints on a Friday and still put in a match of the match performance next day.

A proper old school footballer. RIP
