Trust me there was nothing remotely exciting about the above. Just a completely wasted weekend. Oh and Pontefract reeks of liquorice (as in Pontefract cakes). The only consolation I had out of the entire episode was arriving at Kings Cross handcuffed to those two CID. Reason being that I was wearing a Chelsea scarf, so was getting "what the f**k has he done" looks from a variety of supporters presumably waiting for various specials to get in.

Talking of bad road trips, the Newcastle coaches that got ambushed at the Wandsworth roundabout- why were they heading South?

Probably as they were always parked in Imperial Road the police wanted to take them away from the direction of the ground and the Chelsea hordes, over the river and then back over Lambeth or Vauxhall Bridge

Sounds about right. I was thinking south circular, north circular, M1 but that's a flipping long way round

Middlesbrough away about 92/3? friday night game live on sky drew 0.0, our coach got there late as the driver got lost even though we could see the ground in the distance.

Stoke away 1995 League cup drew 0.0 went in a mates car, it broke down on the way just outside Stoke, managed to get a tow truck to pick it up, ended up getting a lift to the ground much to the amusement of the locals 5 lads jumping out of a pick up truck, we couldnt pick the car up until the next day i was the only one with money on me but the others were quite skint, we tried to find a b&b but had no joy so spent the night in a NCP car park, dossing about on the stair well, we went to a petrol garage where ob pulled us up asking what we were doing ect, we told them they said watch us we'll give you something to watch, with that they sped off, within mins two plod cars were racing up & down a dual carriageway.

We finally got the car back at midday, that was a long trip lol!
I was on that coach to Boro too!

Garys coaches? nightmare lol
Think it was

Would have been picked up at Toddington services?

I remember being late to the game & being able to see the floodlights

Same season i went to the Postponed Cup match up there & the re-arranged game...lost 2-1.

Thats it mate, yeah i forgot about that pp Boro game we got as far as Bham when it was called off.

About 30 other CFC went to N forest v Southampton & had their own little segregation going on in the away end, they was there to support Kerry Dixon for Southampton.

Man Utd away late 90s, night match, big firm of us at Baker St waiting for our coach to turn up at midday, it finally got to us about 3/4pm, a 53 seater had over 70 lads on board, loads stood & sat in the aisle, got to somewhere like Coventry services when a mini bus load of Palace dug out 2 CFC lads, the coach load wanted to turn em over but were stopped, some of ours had a word with the Palace mugs, who couldnt speed off quick enough!!

We had a piss bucket being passed around & spilling!! one lad opens the emergency door at the back while we're speeding up the motorway to empty it.

Our driver then gets the hump & says he wont drive us back, he's threatened with all sorts which didnt help matters!

We finally got to Manc at 8.20pm with the lads stood up all crouching down to avoid plod pulling us, we finally get in the ground not long after to hear CFC scored.

Half time came & rumours went around our coach had done the off, i managed to arrange a lift back on Garys coaches, after the game we've all come out & i cant see our coach anywhere, it then goes off with my coach load running towards Utd on the concourse outside the Stretford end, i just jump on Garys coach before it leaves.

I finally got home at 05.30am & went straight to work, knackered.

It turns out the coach was actually waiting for the lads but had parked elsewhere.

Chelsea Away for you.

Love this thread.

Some minor discomforts here, bigger adventures to follow.

Had the misfortune to be on at least a couple of specials that got bricked coming back from Manc land or the Scousers. Can't remember exact details, though it seemed to happen almost every time. Usually someone would be looking out and give the call just before it happened giving time to take cover. One time though a half brick came through unannounced and smacked really hard into the seat head height on the other side of the aisle from me. Luckily that was the one seat that was empty. There was a girl sitting in the next one over, she was extremely lucky.

Sometimes if the train was totally packed I used to go and sit in the goods car. Talk about a cattle truck! Stick a paper down on the always dirty, dusty and greasy floor and it was reasonably comfortable although a bit hard on the arse. Defo did that coming back from Grimsby.

I remember one time, I think it was Newcastle, when we pulled into a station alongside the 125 somewhere like Nottingham. I was sitting their with my hoard of Coke cans and Mars Bars from the 'buffet' (run by Gary Staker and Breda Lee?) and ended up selling some of them through that small sliding window at the top to the blokes on the 125. Their train had run out of any form of food or drink as soon as it left Newcastle. It wasn't often that we were better off on the specials.

I wasn't on that coach back from Sunderland with the broken windows thank Christ but I was sat next to a fat c@@t who ate food from his Tesco bag all the way up there and never said a word to me for 6 hours. I've seldom been as disappointed as getting back on the coach only to see that everyone had gone back to the same seats. Fatty ate all the way back too and was his same chatty self. That was a thoroughly uncomfortable and depressing journey.

Also remember an Everton night game when I'd got the 125 with my girlfriend only to have the OB refuse let us go back to the station. They marched us to Edgehill and stuck us on a four carriage cattle truck with what looked like our mob.

Breda was me and my dads best friend I never knew her son Gary but my dad did. Just reading her name has made me sad and think of all the good times I had with her in London and in Ireland I really miss her my trips ain't the same anymore. My dad went to her funeral in Dorset even ken bates was at it. I remember when breada came home for her lasttime she knew she was dying and wouldn't be home again it was very sad saying goodbye at the airport. I miss her loads a proper chelsea fan ]

Everton away, the 1-1 draw (March 86?) For some reason we ended up going by National Express instead of the train. Not too bad on the way up but the bus back didn't leave until 9:30pm or something so we had to hang around in Liverpool for a few hours. Not that much fun back then, in fact it was a complete sh*thole. Couldn't see any Chelsea anywhere and the locals were decidedly unfriendly the moment we opened our mouths so figured the best thing to do was to go the cinema and sit through Back to the Future again. We sat there playing 'I-spy' waiting for the film to start. "I spy with my little eye something beginning with M.S.G". Mongy Scouse git". "Correct, your turn". Got the bus back and arrived at Kings X about 1am (not the bus station near Victoria for some reason). Sat up in the station until the tube opened and caught that back to Waterloo to catch the first train home about 24 hrs after we'd first left. That sort of time commitment was not unusual watching Chelsea away back then.

Portsmouth away 1984, the near promotion game when we gave Alan Biley the worst stick over his Rod Stewart haircut. Three of us borrowed a mate's Ford Escort for the night. It was his pride and joy. Last thing he said was "please look after it and don't drive too fast". Needless to say the engine seized outside Petersfield. Every second car that night was Chelsea with scarves flying out of the windows so we tried hitching. Took ages until these two Irish fellas took pity on us and picked us up. Ended up in this huge Chelsea traffic jam outside Portsmouth and crawled into town. We made it just in time for kick off and agreed to meet at the car after the match. Well the match was a right laugh, one of my all time favourites. When it was over I presume the Irish lads went back to their car immediately. I have to admit we were having too much of a good time on the terracing. Anyone remember the chant of "what's the time? what's the time? what's the time?" as someone spun the hands of the big clock at the back of the terrace? Then passed various bits of the clock over our heads as it was slowly dismantled and thrown on to the pitch. (OK that's pretty moronic when you look at it in print I admit but it was fecking funny at the time). Anyway, we finally left the ground (police held us in?) and couldn't find the car so we figured they'd left so we bunked the train to London instead along with just about everyone else. It was rammed. Got back about mignight and then got my dear old mum to drive us back down to Petersfield and tow my mate's car back to his house in Molesey. We left it their on his drive about 3am hoping he'd somehow think it had nothing to do with us. No, that didn't really pan out.

I only knew her from the specials. First came across her going to Leeds away, Nov '83. As we were all queueing for  Wagon Wheels (1980s size), Mars Bars and Panda Pops she was leading multiple choruses of  "we all hate Leeds and Leeds and Leeds." Wasn't she known as 'mum'?

Lol that sounds like her alright. Great women. I put pics up on here of myself in the dressing rooms at Chelsea something I couldn't have done without Breda.

Posted this elsewhere, Breda was on a coach I was on after man city away 84. We were going to the grand hotel after the game for a meal with Ken Bates and his wife for 200 fans that had been away a lot that season. As we arrived there were a few united fans hanging around. Breda got off the coach first and said basically "clear off, deal with me or I'll let this lot out"!! They ran off with a chant of Breda is our leader, Breda is our Leader, la lah lah la!!! Happy days. great days on the specials with her sorting out the raffle with Johny B's mum and sometimes Micky Fillery' s mum as well.

Thanks for that story. My dad was pally with Jonny Bs mum threw Breda of course.

I used to do a LOT of hitchhiking. Most of the time it was just boring, waiting and waiting for a lift, frustration at the inevitable clever c**t who would pull up about fifty yards ahead of you, beep his horn, then pull off laughing like an idiot as soon as you got close to the motor.

Not that it was all bad. In fact there was the occasional episode that came close to restoring my battered faith in human nature. Like the waitress at a motorway cafe, who seeing me sitting at a table, looking like death warmed up, brought me over a couple of burgers, telling me: "your order sir", with a smile and a wink.

Another time, me and JP were on the way to Hull or maybe it was Grimsby, and somewhere around Goole, this bloke pulled up with his son, and after we'd been talking about football for a while, pulled up at a chip shop, paying for fish & chips all round,

And then there were these two birds from Leicester. Me and another bloke were hitchhiking home, which was unusual in itself - usually it would be easy enough to bunk back either on a supporter's coach, or on the special. But anyway, these two girls stopped for us, gave us the right chat, how they loved our London accents, how it was getting late, and would we like a bed for the night... thinking our luck had changed, we couldn't have been more wrong. These pair of Northern bloody cows pulled up in the middle of nowhere, telling us; "Wait here lads, we'll be back in five minutes, after we've made the beds" Or some such old fanny. Needless to say that was the last we ever so of those to, and so we were faced with a trek of God only knows how far to get back to somewhere remotely resembling civilisation.
