Stuck to my chair just now as Miss Mini Loz is having a squealing evening unless I sit beside her holding her hand - hence time to waste so here is my A-Z list. Not counting the words 'The' or 'A'

Apocalypse Now

Bladerunner

Citizen Kane (tough call due to Clockwork Orange)

Deer Hunter

Exorcist

Full Metal Jacket

Godfather

Harder They Come

In The Heat of the Night

Jaws

Killing Fields

Life of Brian

My Name is Joe

Night at the Opera

On The Waterfront

Player

Quadrophenia

Raging Bull

Scarface

T (2001) Space Odyssey

Usual Suspects

Vertigo - nearly plumped for Videodrome here

Withnail & I

X - X is unfair - I am definitely not plumping for X Men so I am playing my joker and including Clockwork Orange!

Young Adam

Zulu

Yeah yeah yeah, blame poor Miss Mini Loz for ignoring my Steal this Movie, not to mention Henry V (Branagh version)...

I., please destroy daddy's keyboard again!

That Henry V is actually very good but in the battle for 'H Supremacy' against 'Harder They Come' it stands as much chance as a mountain bike in Toxteth.

I haven't seen 'Steal this Movie' but it is going to have to be stunning with a capital 'STUNI' to steal Scarface's crown.

Toxteth doesn't mean anything to me, and I have the vague feeling that it's just as well

I'm sure this is not a thread bashing each other's brains in about our favourite's H film, but I urge you to watch Steal this movie or read the autobiograhphy of Abbie Hoffman (which will show up on your list of Amazon purchases any time now

). The book will probably beat the film.... Much more relevant to everyday society than Scarface will ever be.

Citizen Kane (tough call due to Clockwork Orange)
Dunno, Loz. This thread was for Favourite films rather than 'What films you think are the best quality'. (Though I agree they don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive).

Is 'Citizen Kane really your favourite film that starts with 'F'? Or is it just good to list because it's a 'classic' and one of the 'best films of all time'?

I like 'Citizen Kane' by the by. But just making a point. (Though in a similar vein, I can't stand 'Casablanca' and get sick to the stomach when all the Hollywood types w*nk each other off about how it's the greatest film ever made. Hell, it even got voted by the WGAE and WGAW as the best screenplay of all time. I mean, what the F*CK? Get your hand off it Hollywood!)

For example, someone could say Forest Gump (multiple Oscar winner) is a 'great' film. But I'd throw in Future Cop under 'F' any day*. A flick nobody on here has probably ever heard of. Why? Because it's a long time 'favourite' of mine. In fact, if I go through my top 10 or 20 film, hardly any of them are classed as 'classics'. Except things like 'Die Hard' and 'Aliens' which are 'classics' of the genre.

Jack Deth is back. And he hasn't even been here before...

*Oz title, 'Trancers' in the US. Just like 'Airplane' was 'Flying High' in Oz. Same flick, different title.

.
No Citizen Kane is not my favourite film that starts with an 'F' that would be 'Full Metal Jacket' , 'Citizen Kane' is my favourite film that starts with a 'C'

However I take your point, there are many 'classic' films that always appear on the standard lists of 'Greatest Ever Film' and my belief is that they are voted for because they are deemed to be classics rather than because people can truly watch them time and time and time again. However, for me , Citizen Kane is not one one those, I can, and have watched Citizen Kane many many times.

At the same time you have to acknowledge that many films are classics AND people's favourites because they thoroughly deserve to be.

However just to emphasise that my list is not a simplistic collection of the films we are all supposed to have seen I invite a poll of how many people have seen 'My Name is Joe' and I further ask why I didn't just opt for Midnight Cowboy or Marathon Man, Maltese Falcon, My Left Foot or Man Who WOuld be King.

Oops. 80 wpm typing...d'oh. F's one key above the C!

PS:

rather than because people can truly watch them time and time and time again.
That to me is EXACTLY my definition of what a favourite film is. One you can watch today and enjoy it every bit as much as the last 25 times!

I second Paulo's recommnedation of 'Good Night and Good Luck' - that, along with 'Pan's Labyrinth' are, for me, the best two films that have come out in the last few years.
