Afcon final Morocco vs Senegal on e4

AFCON is such an unserious competition.

It’s absolutely insane the amount of African players in Europes top leagues that that is the competition they have to showcase and celebrate themselves.

It’s decades behind the Copa America let alone the Euros.

 
I was thinking on other incidents like when Zindane headbutted Marco Materazzi in the Euro final.

Morocco have been declared the winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after the Confederation of African Football (Caf) overturned the result of their final defeat to Senegal.

Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 in the final on 18 January in a match which was overshadowed when the Senegalese players refused to play after the hosts were awarded a stoppage-time penalty with the match goalless.

Following a delay of around 17 minutes, the players did eventually return and Brahim Diaz's penalty was saved before Senegal's Pape Gueye scored an extra-time winner.

However, that result has now been overturned by African football's governing body.

A statement from Caf said that Senegal are "declared to have forfeited the final match" with the "result of the match being recorded as 3-0 in favour" of Morocco.

I mean isn’t it normal circumstances that if any team that leaves the pitch, forfeits?

Unless directed to do so by the ref. This will rumble on. An appeal to CAS.

Unlike in Emglsnd where that takes 76 years to progress the City case and fines us less than a years salary for a top player for a host of dodgy deals.

Arguably at least Africa is taking action quickly and hitting where it hurts.

All they had to do was say they'd abandoned the game on the day and give Morocco the trophy, or stick with Senegal as the winner. This debacle just makes even more of a laughing stock of what is one of the least professional sporting bodies.

 
Blame the ref in question.

Game should’ve been forfeited the moment they went to the lockeroom.

You see this is where they lose me.

You can't claim this is a violation, or an injustice to the laws of the game, when Senegal literally walked off the pitch and abandoned the game for 20 minutes. Literally three laws were broken in the process, Articles 82 & 84 and IFAB Law 3. So to come out and say this is a violation of FIFA laws for being stripped of the trophy, is contradictory.

Was talking to a mate of mine and the argument Senegal has is that there is a law that states the ref has the authority to continue the match, but the issue is that Senegal have already broken 3 laws by abandoning the pitch. If there are laws that contradict one another, then the sensible solution is to rely on the hierarchy of which law weighs more than the other, and since its One law vs Three laws it's understandable why the trophy was stripped.

It's just a mess all around and puts an even worse reputation on AFCON and CAF.

CAF are famously incompetent. And arguably corrupt.
