Yea was just coming in to say that. We can't forget the previous history, but he did have a good game Sunday. There was a little incident with Enzo which I was very surprised Taylor didn't overreact to it, in fact, he stayed calmer than most other refs would. He kept it fair football mostly, which is all we want.

 
Mike Dean has admitted to having seen the Cucurella hair pull vs Spurs last season on VAR, but did not want to ask Taylor to view it as "he did not want to make him look bad".

Probably his dislike of Chelsea FC did not hold back his choice there either eh.

Confirms what we have suspected since it came in. VAR is being used by corrupt individuals to influence games the way they want.

 
Yes, the paywalled Telegraph have published Dean's astounding confession of match-fixing, to spare his mate Taylor from having Ng to take a look at the monitor.

"Former Premier League referee Mike Dean failed to intervene on a major VAR call because he didn’t want to cause his friend Anthony Taylor any ‘grief’, he has revealed.

In a remarkably candid admission, Dean said he made the “pathetic” call at the climax of the 2-2 draw between Tottenham and Chelsea last August.

Cristian Romero pulled Marc Cucurella’s hair seconds before Harry Kane’s 96th minute equaliser, and Dean acknowledged that in the heat of the moment he made a bad choice not to suggest on-field official Taylor consider a sending off offence.

“I missed the stupid hair pull at Chelsea versus Tottenham which was pathetic from my point of view,” Dean told Up Front with Simon Jordan.

“It’s one of them where if I had my time again, what would I do? I’d send Anthony [Taylor] to the screen. I think I knew if I did send him to the screen … he’s cautioned both managers, he’s had a hell of a game, it’s been such a tough game end to end.

“I said to Anthony afterwards: ‘I just didn’t want to send you to the screen after what has gone on in the game’. I didn’t want to send him up because he is a mate as well as a referee and I think I didn’t want to send him up because I didn’t want any more grief than he already had.

“Anthony, he is big and bald and ugly enough to know if he is going to the screen he is going to the screen for a reason. If someone pulls their hair now it’s dead easy. It’s just a brainwave by me, a really bad call by me, and it kind of affected me as VAR going forward.”

It’s disgraceful really - a really poor reflection on the level of officiating in the so-called best league in the world. We just have to move on.

So wheres his punishment???? 

Isn't VAR supposed to be correcting these issues but instead its creating more issues in the game. 

I already had a feeling VAR is there for potential match fixing and now its been confirmed

So he didn't want to give him grief? What about grief for the fans or for the club??? 

If we missed out on a title/CL because of the 2 points then what???

Would be interesting to see how differently things pan out had we won that game. Does Tuchel keep his job? 

I know it wasn't performance, but 2 extra points in that game and more positivity around the team could have made a lot of difference.

Settle down. Reverse the situation, Chelsea player pulls an oppo player's hair at the other end, Dean would have acted the same way. His bizarre motive was to somehow protect his mate. From what I don't know. Dean was always a problematic ref,  a show-boater, now he has sunk himself.

From what I believe it was 2-1 at the time his hair was pulled, if we got a pen it would have been 3-1

If we pulled somebodies hair in their box it would have been a guaranteed pen. 

So you dont give a decision to protect a mate? Your doing a bloody job your not there to protect mates. 

Should be sacked or punished like how our manager got punished after the tuchel vs conte fight

 
It was a guaranteed pen that Dean didn't refer to Taylor. He wouldn't have referred it at the other end with roles reversed. Nowt to do with match fixing is my point.

It wasn't a pen that Taylor missed, it was the hair pull (violent conduct). It would have given us a free kick with seconds to play, and Spuds would not have had the corner from which they scored.

So where is the apology to Chelsea? I didn't see it in that article, maybe it's he sent it via mail 🙄

It's unbelievable, you are paid to watch the goal ( with other video refs) and somehow managed to miss it completely. It's incident ( deliberate) like that makes me think AI VAR is the way to go, at least when computer f* it up it's just random.

 
It's insane the only two times a ref has come out and admitted they didn't do their job properly on purpose is to penalise Chelsea against Tottenham.

The problem with VAR is the human being at the controls.

It is also insane that two of the most high-profile refs in English football history have publicly admitted to reffing a huge fixture in a dishonest manner to the detriment of one of the teams (coincidentally, Chelsea in both cases). I genuinely consider this to be a form of match-fixing that should come with legal consequences to protect the integrity of the sport.

 
I think the issue is less about a specific vendetta against Chelsea, and more about an issue with how personal relationships are impacting the professionalism of the referees/VAR officials. Its a serious lack of professional standards to choose to "protect your mate" from criticism (which he wouldnt have got anyway as it was a clear foul!) in a match with so much riding on it. Jobs on the line, win bonuses lost, longer term ambitions impacted. One decision has massive consequences in a ruthless, results-driven business like football.
