I can see Milner being played as a true number 10 in the Baggio mould.

Emile Heskey could come out of retirement. Rooney gets another ten years as Captain.

Here's what I wrote on another thread. It's more appropriate to put it in this thread instead.

For what it's worth, as a non-English, I think Allardyce will be a good manager for England in terms of achieving realistic expectations. His style isn't pretty, but it frustrates the hell out of opponents, and you only have to watch it a few times a year. People have complained that he isn't a winner, hasn't won anything, won't win anything for England.

I think that's true, England won't win anything with him in charge. I don't think they'd win anything with anyone in charge unless they get unusually lucky and pull a Greece 2004 or Portugal 2016.

Realistic goals for the English team are to beat teams they'd be expected to beat on paper, occasionally beat teams they're not expected to beat on paper, and put up a good fight in any games they lose. However far that takes them in a tournament will depend on the draw.

What I'm pretty sure Allardyce will not do: play players with a bad attitude, be biased toward big names and big teams, be an FA yes man.

Who do you see getting on/off the team under Allardyce? I can see Carroll getting a shot. Noble and Shawcross perhaps? I think Wilshere will be dropped but don't have a sense of who else will be. I'm very curious what he'll do with Rooney.

I think Gary will keep his spot, deservedly so. He's been in JT's shadow and has been underrated as a result. He also strikes me as having a good attitude.

There is so much wrong with this post I don't know were to start.

Allardyce is the only English manager that has actually evolved with the times, in fact he introduced sport science and prozone to the English game, and also was one of the first managers to use video analysis, his forward thinking nearly got a £10m Bolton squad into the Champions League.

Big Sam, also unlike the rest of the English manager's, plays to his team's strengths, which varys in particular times, he has had teams playing good football, but equally is unapologetic about mixing it If need be.

One example was his last season at West Ham, his team lead by Sakho and Valencia were playing great football, some of the best in the league, but one game vs Hull it wasn't working, 0-0 half time and Hull totally snuffed out the passing game, so second half route one, 3-0, thank you very much.

Also with Sam you can guarantee players will be picked on form and only form, which has been missing for quite some time.

This is a fantastic appointment by the FA, and now I'm hopeful we might get somewhere, do you remember most our games vs Big Sam down the years? Almost all off them have been hard battles and fair few times we came unstuck, it happened as recently as May.

Will England win either World Cup or Euros anytime soon? Probably not, but what I will guarantee is whenever England get eliminated under Sam we will go down kicking and screaming, not the beyond humiating ways we have been kicked out of four of the last five tournaments (I'm including the Euro 2008 qualifayers in that).

 
I want to thank the FA for not pursuing Herr Jurgen Klinsmann any further. I like the fact that Yanks have done better than England in the last couple of World Cups & it shall continue to be the case as well. Cheers England :biggrin:

Good choice (fwiw). Sam will get the players playing to a clear system and he'll know who he wants to play. I don't think he'll play players just on reputation either. We'll perhaps not have the smooth performance in qualifying for competitions but when we get there we'll do much better I hope.

 
Not a big sam fan tbh. He did gery well with bolton but never won anything, and since he left there i dont think he has over acheived at any club hes been at. Usually his biggest strenthg is in his transfers, which wont be the case.

There isnt much else out there unfortunately, bit i have zero faith in us improving much under big sam.

Nice guy though so im hoping im wrong.

 
It's hilarious that it's come to this. Sam Allardyce, England manager. Funnily enough, he is exactly who we need right now. 

Roy was a nice man but tactically inept and really had no idea what to do with the players at his disposal.

Some good old fashioned gumption is needed, and I think Big Sam will take this group of players further in the World Cup than we have ever got in the last 10 years. 

 
Quite happy with this to be honest. He comes across as a bit "no nonsense" which should help to change the attitude of some of the primadonnas we currently have!

I think too he will pick people based on form rather than reputation so that in itself could be the motivation for players to buck their ideas up.

 
At the Euros England were yet again physically and competitively outfought at a major tournament. Hopefully Allardyce can instill a style of play that allows us to overperform as underdogs.

If Wales and Iceland's performance at the Euros is anything go by we don't need to mould a team based around the 'highest paid' so I can see the likes of Charlie Daniels, Andrew Surman, Michail Antonio getting a shot... perhaps George Thorne and Michael Keane?

The England U19s are currently 2-0 down to Italy in the Euro U19 Semi Final. Italy have just had a goal disallowed.

Just realised this tournament taking place!

 
I have lost faith in England to be honest. It doesn't matter who is bought in, we will still see the same mistakes repeated.
