Bruno Guimaraes

Still think he’s over rated. High energy, combative - works well on tyneside. Think of the yellow cards he’ll get in Chelsea blue with that style. Would rather someone younger and more composed.

 
A Geordie pal of mine said that Bruno almost single handedly kept them up last season.

He didn't have many nice things to say about quite a few of their players, and I'd get a suspension on here if I repeated the words he used to describe Eddie Howe...

 
Aside from the summer of Todd since BlueCo bought the club we have not signed a single over 25 for any sort of transfer fee, since our wage cap and under 25 policies got put in place came in January 2023

Now Lacriox (26) breaks that, albeit by just 1 year, Bruno at 85mill and almost 29 would show a change has been made to the approach this summer.

On the other hand, whilst all they have done to date is cack, there is still an element of commercial and ultimately sporting sense to this policy.its been the fact that its been a hard stop and that the signings have been ridiculosly young and inexperienced and over priced for what we're getting, that has riled everyone.

Signing Lacroix outside of this range is a good shift as the player appears to be decent value for the money and will provide a decent return to us when he does eventually move on.

Guimaraes I like. I think he would add great value. But £85m for effectively a 29 year old is a he'll of a lot of dough especially as there is likely to be a significant reduction in resale value.

It shouldn't bother us, it's not our money. Except when we are all pissed off in 3 years time when we can't afford the replacement we want because BGs value has dropped £60m.

For me a slightly younger, equally PL experienced, and slightly cheaper might be preferable. Somebody like, oh I don't know, maybe James Garner.

 
Even if we do need experience, £70+m for a soon to be 29 year old is too much. Personally, I don't even think he is that great. He's a good player, but nothing more than that.

What i was kind of hoping for was that we were playing some 3D chess mind game BS, whereby we effectively goad Arsenal into going all in with a £75m - £80m bid for Guimaraes, so they didn't lose him to us, which Newcastle accept. Then with the money burning a hole in their pockets, they come in with a £65m bid for Jackson.....and maybe take Barco off us on a loan deal into their midfield as well. 😁

If Arsenal up their offer to a deal worth 85mill then that's a wrap, Bruno will head there.

They are getting there in the end, paying close to Newcastle's original valuation.🙄

Goof player but price is way too high. Arsenal will fold this time and pay the £85 million because of our rumoured involvement.

I’d rather pay more for Wharton to be honest. Scott being a close second choice.

 
Oh I hope Younes is on the money on this, the Arsenal reaction would be hilarious.

Apparently the toon are getting a bit peed off with Arsenals tactics over this deal and are threating to raise their price, for just Arsenal, to 95mill if Arsenal don't stop messing them around soon.

 
Arsenal's arrogance in the market this summer is something else. It's like they think they have become this sought after club that every player dreams of playing for and they make one ridiculous bid after another. Not only they do not even get close to the asking price, but they lowball that by 30-35M for every bid they make like they are the governors of the transfer market and only their assessments are the true value.

Kroenke did this so many times after a good season in which the fans thought the summer window would be a top one, just to arrive in late August and see they missed on their top targets because Kroenke was stingy. Hope they get a reality check again.

I have that feeling towards the italian clubs especially ac milan, their arrogance in transfer market is quite something. Arsenal are still alright in that department, they still paid the inflated rate for rice, haverts, noni, pepe etc.

To be fair, the price quoted by the seller club nowadays are highly inflated. We should be frustrated with our club falling into that trap most of the times. How good it would have been if we walked away from murdyk, gitten, enzo, kepa deal last time.
