Wonder if Scholes refused to play for England because he was sick of the fawning over Gerrard

I love that Lineker laid into Gerrard's captaincy skills, just shows you how much better of a Captain JT is

If Lampard had played instead of Gerrard in the first 2 games, I think we would have just about made it through, or at the very least got more than 1 f**king point.

I agree with this. Though I think Gerrard is the better player now, Lineker's assessment is correct in that Gerrard is an individual. He lacks tactical nous and as such needs everything built around him. It's no surprise his best performances tend to come in crazy games where game plans have gone out of the window. His best two seasons since the mid 2000s have been when he has been allowed to do what the heck he likes whilst others clean up his mess (2009 & 2014)

When Gerrard does hold a press conference wouldn't it be nice if he were to be asked about Suarez's latest biting incident. Would love to hear his response. No doubt he would give a pitiful reason.

For a start it would be nice if we understood a word he said.

There's a picture doing the rounds on twitter of the players applauding the fans after the last game, well nearly all the players. Guess which one isn't applauding?

From the pictures i have seen though i9t shows he was definitely there.

Thank f**k for that!  Long overdue and won't be missed.

No more glory passes, no more of his back passes, no more of him not being able to stick to a position, no more of the media fawning over him. This is a great day for the English national team.

Perfectly put.

If I needed to know how crap of a England Captain Gerrard is, I just need to think back to 2010, regardless of this World Cup.  Only one display to be proud of and coincidentally it was after John Terry honestly answered questions, calling his team out, at a press conference the FA ask him to attend...sorry I mean when upstart Terry tried to undermine the manager/team/country/Jesus etc etc... but ya, that was the only good competitive match I recall where Gerrard captaining over for England and quite frankly I cant even give him credit for moralising the troops. and it was Slovenia by the way.

So the next England captain is no doubt going to be Wayne.

At least now when we lose, we get to hear him in the post-match trying to speak English.

"errr i dunno m8, err u wot m8? I jus wana concentrate on mi football m88888".

nearly 120 games and 3 decent displays, no more massive gaps in midfield, no more running round the pitch being captain marvel, then booting it 50 yards into the crowd. Will he be remembered as the worst captain we ever had?
