Just watching the whole match on Chelsea TV.. the first game at Wembley. I am sure there ar emany of oyu who know it well. just felt like commenting....

I have it on VHS but not watched for 'kin years....

We were out played by Leeds scum in the second half they hit the post three times but the rest is history...

But what made me sick to the pit of my stomach .... not only was the atmosphere piss poor ! a lot worse than it is today :) .. but when Hutchinson scored his superb equaliser, and I never recall this before but the whole chelsea crowd were singing "walk on" in full voice...

I cant remember us ever doing that and I been going since late 70's and none of the older supporters ever mentioned it to me... is it true, was it a Chelsea song? it was it just a football song ?

Bonetti was amazing ! as was Charlie Cook I thought.. Gutsy stuff.. Drogba wouldn't have last 2 minitues :P

Walk on was never an exclusively Scouse/ Celtic song - most teams sang it with scarves outstretched in the 70s/ early 80 (with the 'disco', handclap version coming in after a while). I don't know when we stopped singing it, but it's been many years.

I also watched the 1970 final at the weekend. Absolutely epic. Yes, Leeds could/ should have won at Wembley, but we battled well and created plenty of chances. Bonetti was the hero for us, but Harris, Hollins, Hutch, Houseman, Dempsey, Baldwin, Cooke and Ossie all did well I thought. Webbie was embarrassed by Eddie Gray and gave a way a blatant pen for a foul on Mick Jones (the ref was Norwegian, I think, and missed it).

As Backbiter says, most teams fans used to sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' in the 60's/70's/early 80's. Liverpool & Septic fans seemed to think it was their song exclusively, just about sums them up really.

I can remember a few times when the entire Shed End terrace sang it, and the whole Fulham Road end of the ground was just a mass of blue & white scarves, very spectacular.

In my opinion, the song only worked well on the terraces, as the crowd's (any crowd's) swaying momentum made it look like a moving sea of colour. Today when I see the scum & Septic fans sing it looks quite pathetic, as they're just standing there with a scarf held aloft, looks so static.

Alan Hudson was ruled out after suffering ankle ligament injury at West Brom two weeks before the final at Wembley. He wasn't even able to make the replay two and a half weeks after Wembley, I felt so sorry for him. I also feel that if Huddy had played in the final, we wouldn't have needed a replay to beat Leeds.

Ah .. now you mention that I remember doing the Disco handclap version.. so early 80's rings true for me, thanks.

Really enjoyed the match thought for those of you there it must have felt like it was it after the Leeds second goal a (lot like Lamps on Saturday) killed the game off, but we came back really well... technically they were probably the better team, but so much guts and passion from the Chelsea team, if we had half that today would be nice ! . Hope they show the second game soon too save me digging out the old VHS player.

i saw the 1970 final on chelsea tv the other day and was shocked by the bad tackles, the crude dirty hacking down of players and the retaliation.compared to todays standard of refereeing it would have ended up as a 5 a side game coz most players would have been sent off.

Ah, those were the days, back when it was a man's game...

I bought this copy of the DVD the other year:

On the DVD are extended highlights of the Wembley game and the Old Trafford replay in full, the set also includes a copy of the Wembley match programme - price Two Shillings! If you can find a copy it's well worth having.

Absolutely! Wembley was a disgrace that year, thanks to the Horse Of The Year Show being staged on it just before the final, but the pitch in the semi-final against Watford at WHL was just as bad. Pitches in those days were normally sh*te by November, and stayed that way till the following summer, especially Chelsea's.

Yet despite all that hard tackling and the boggy pitches there were some wonderful players around back then. George Best, Charlie Cooke or Rodney Marsh would be priceless in these days of no physical contact and pitches like billiard tables. On the other hand, can you imagine the likes of Ronaldo or Robinho playing back in the 60's or 70's - Ronaldo would be in tears before a game even kicked off, and I often daydream about the aftermath of a Ron Harris tackle on him

I remember crying when Jones scored, but I was only 9 and obviously not as hard and cool as I am now!

Christ yeah, their's was probably the worst of the lot. I'd love to see todays prima donnas trying to play on that heap of brown splat

Bloody hell, the old Baseball Ground - yeah, that was definitely one of the worst, if not THE worst. Don't think I ever saw grass on a pitch at Derby, it always looked like the teams were playing on the Somme.
