Once Palestra gets in the team, we will be even more open at the back. This is why we need another midfielder similar to Caicedo. The three upfront will create tons of chances and there will be a lot of danger coming from the wings, now we need that steel in midfield to protect that backline.

Well I have been craving some football for the last 4 years and at last I have watched three entertaining games in a row.

The ploy for Martinez to go long from the hands is a clear ploy for us to concede possession and play on the counter. On transition we have the tools to be devastating.

The other side of Alonso's gameplay, certainly at Dortmund was gegenpressing and being solid defensively. Clearly we still have some work to do and it shouldn't be lost that two of the conceded goals came from forward players not being defensively aware and the third was a slow response to a quick turnover.

Acheampong already looks so much better under Alonso and I have also been pleasantly surprised by Neto's contribution. We have to get rid of this useless weak Gusto and get some more presence in the pivot as well. Alonso and his team will sort this defence out once they are all fully fit and functioning. I am sure of it

Room for improvement but my God a world way from the sterile sh*t we have been fed for the last few seasons.

 
Tbf what's Alonso meant to do with that midfield? Caicedo obviously not fit and Enzo about to be sold. Palestra has been brought in to play RWB and he isn't fit yet so we've whacked Neto there who can't defend.

He had options, under no circumstance should Gusto be CM. He could have played Barco alongside Lavia or even James. I am not a big fan of James in midfield, but he's a better option than Gusto. If he is an injury risk, then this takes me right back to the summer where I said we need to move on from him, because we can't go into games concerned about the fitness of James all of the time. Either he needs to be available every game, or we move on.

Hopefully this is sorted out by next week and we have a couple of new CM's at the club.

Fair points although I still think Neto defended more effectively than the useless Gusto. Prat can't even throw a ball ffs

Always happens with this ridiculously overrated referee. It's the same with all of these overwhelmingly northern PL referees. They're biased against most London teams tbh.

Not sure what’s going on at the back. That was horrendous. We were lucky to only concede 3. Looks like we’re also going to need to spend the Fernandez money on a couple of midfielders.

Three points in the bag, but it’s a pity the Arsenal game is coming so soon.

 
A nervy win against a good team.

I'm just hoping that the powers that be at this club see today's game and realise we need a new midfielder this week.

6 out of 6 points is a good start though.

 
Enjoyed that, some exciting football so far, but we do need a top, top DM in before the window closes

 
Unless we get at the minimum 2 new midfielders and sort out that defence we are going no where even if we only play 1 game a week

 
Don't think my hearts going to cope with games like these this season. It's like Newcastle under Keegan so far. I'm loving the wining but I've now got even more grey hair.

 
Alonso needs to stop f**king about, sort out the midfield and defence. The amount of times we cleared the ball to a Brighton defender was suicidal, there is no connection between midfield and defence and it can't continue like that. Eventually the attack won't save us, we will get found out and go on a run of games without a win.

Think he needs to tell Rogers to track back more, I like him up front but he’s not putting in as much of shift as Palmer and João when off the ball

I always struggled to see what many others see in him. If he’d arrived from Strasbourg he’d probably be getting a much harder time from fans.

All valid, I'll wait until a few more weeks down the line and give him the benefit of the doubt, we need this midfield situation sorted before the end of the window for sure otherwise we can expect more of these types of games.
