A guy called Dave Mitchell was just appointed coach of Perth Glory (they were my local side until i moved to the other side of the country). Aparently he used to play for Chelsea. Anyone know anything about this guy?

 
Dave Mitchell. He was very tall, and had a beard.

He was also useless. Went on to play for Swindon afterwards i think.

 
funnily enough, the only thing i can remember about him was he was tall. same as bjd.

 
Dave Mitchell was born in Glasgow in 1962. Weighing in at over 12 stone, he was a slim and aggressive 6' 1" striker, and played for FC Koln, Glasgow Rangers, and Feyenoord before John Hollins had yet another of his managerial fits of dementia and signed him for Chelsea for around ?200,000 in 1988.

Mitchell played eight times for Chelsea, but failed to score a goal. He's generally regarded as a crap player by Chelsea fans, and this is borne out by his going to those giants of Europe, Swindon Town, when he left the Bridge.

Despite being born in God's own land, Mitchell probably realised that he was never gonna be good enough to represent Scotland, so took his parents' nationality and played 28 times for Australia, scoring 11 goals.

I remember his name being read out before a game and the entire ground burst out laughing cos he was so bad.

Was quite a sucess at Millwall later in his career.

 
He was the bestest until someone invented sliced bread and put cream in your coffee, then it was down hill until he became a legend at Swindon for all of one half of a season.

My Fathers loved him playing for Chelsea, because he could true-fully say, bleedin hell even I am better than him. Leased ways that his story and he is sticking to it.

A sh*t coach and just as culpable as Ron Smith for the misnomer that is the Glory...

Mitchell has been prospecting around for a full managerial gig for a long time now. He was the first to apply for the vacant Adelaide United job, then the Sydney job.

Maybe, but it sucks to see a once-proud club become the laughing stock of the league. Appointing useless hacks like Mitchell is not going to improve anything for Perth.
