Djordje Petrovic signs for Chelsea

True. The keeper whose level was 3rd choice for Brighton has done well at our Europa Conference League winning team.
Never was third choice at Brighton . He did indeed get relegated to the bench but when he was fit he either played or was on the bench.

I like most think he has too many mistakes in him but when some simply make up things about his time at Brighton when the facts tell a different story then to a degree they lose the argument

In his last season at Brighton (22/23) he started 23 PL games , was on the bench for 10 and was injured for 5

omg we're 2020-2023 West Ham
I guess you mean 22/23. And yes WHU won the ECL like us. Alas for them didn’t finish in the top 4; or come to that the top half or even the top 13 ! Can’t remember them playing in the CWC

Other than that I guess the two records are identical!

Sanchez started the first 22 PL games and was then dropped for the rest of the season to the bench for Jason Steele. Brighton came to the conclusion that Jason Steele (7 years his senior and 1 PL appearance to his name before this) was a better option than Sanchez. At this point you would be correct that Sanchez was only 2nd choice (behind a Championship level 32 year old journeyman).

On 3rd July 2023 Brighton then went and signed Verbruggen on a 5 year deal for 20M, thus relegating Sanchez to Brighton's third choice GK.

In Chelsea's wisdom we then decided on 3rd August 2023 to cover Brighton's transfer fee for their new number 1 and throw in an extra 5M to sign what was then their THIRD choice GK.

Nothing has been made up and no argument was lost, you just haven't looked at the full context.

No i meant 2020-2023. in 2020/21 they finished on 65 points, only 4 points shy of our 1.5B super squads tally. in 2022/23 they won the conference league (unbeaten, unlike us).

We're in the CWC based on acheivements from half a decade ago under a different ownership and completely different squad. Disingenuous to claim this as an achievement to date when the only reason we've got so far is because Flamengo completely humiliated us. This is like bragging about how hot your ex-gf was.

You are second guessing what was happening as opposed to knowing. Verbruggen didn’t start his first season at Brighton as number one and whilst we know that Steele did replace Sanchez we do know that he signed for Chelsea before the start of the 23/24 season so other than guessing you have no idea who would have started or been on the bench if he had remained at Brighton . It just suits your narrative

The 20/21season was under the ownership of RA not BlueCo . So the point about the £1.5 b squad is irrelevant.

In 22/23 they did indeed win the CL going unbeaten. Because we didn’t does that mean the fact that we won the competition not count?I guess if we win the CWC ( which I somehow doubt)I guess you won’t even acknowledge the achievement then

You clearly have a hate for Chelsea, yes hate despite you swearing your undying love for the club no matter what happens you are going to put a negative spin on it.

From this point on I certainly won’t be engaging with you on here . I just can’t be arsed arguing or exchanging on matters Chelsea with someone who is either a total wind up merchant or someone who adopts the Private Fraser view on matters

Do you think they signed Verbruggen for 20M to be 3rd choice? Its very basic logic and you're guessing just as much to suit your own narrative but you won't point that out.

I'm talking about West Ham's 2020/21 season in comparison to our season last year (1.5B), how are you not understanding this? Hence why i said us last year are on par with 2020/23 West Ham.

Not sure where i said it doesn't count? I just said what they did was more impressive in the comparison of the two teams. We're Chelsea, we should be absolutely walking that competition unbeaten, i'm happy we won it for the collection but i certainly won't be looking at the conference league as the level we should be settling for.

I love Chelsea more than most, i have a hate for what has happened to the club. I often point out the positives in our recruitment but if you want to choose to ignore that then that's on you. Santos has been great business, lets see what happens with him. Estevao and Paez both exciting options with huge upside. Caicedo one of our best CM's, Lavia is class but never fit. Even Jackson has been good business that we'll profit from. Just because you choose to ignore the positives, you don't have to get so upset about the negatives (that are glaringly obvious) being pointed out.

No problem, add me to your block list your posts are utterly tedious anyway. Enjoy the season pal.

At least Sanchez is consistent. He was sh*t then and he is still sh*t now.

Sanchez can look brilliant with some of the saves he makes - but makes far too many mistakes.

Petrovic seems more consistent- but at his best, I am not convinced he is better than An in form Sanchez.

Personally I would prefer the steady consistency (and less errors) of petrovic….but can understand why some wouldn’t

I can’t resist it so here goes

It’s actually worth looking at the timeline re Sánchez. He was already training and indeed playing in the US for Chelsea ( against Wrexham) weeks before his transfer was formally announced in early August .I suspect discussions, medical agreements etc were in train roughly the same time as Brighton were conducting theirs with their target.

The funny part for me in all this is that Brighton have the reputation for using data to inform their decisions yet the data when comparing the outcomes in 23/24 with Steele as number one was inferior. I would agree that they probably were not happy with either and when we started sniffing around they saw an opportunity and who wouldn’t

If you look at this article dated 17/7/ 23 it was announced that he was he was part of the squad travelling to the US.

I don’t rate Sanchez at all and whilst I like most think that Petrović is likely a better keeper I am far from sure, and it seems be it because of ability or indeed attitude that the view at the club is the same.

Hey yesterday wasn’t my best day so at its end I was firing from the hip. I really don’t want to ignore any Chelsea supporter so in the spirit or “ reconciliation “ we are going to have to agree to disagree on no doubt this and possibly quite a few matters where views are based on opinion rather than fact

After the Bournemouth game at home which we drew 2-2 thanks to a last minute free kick we were on the tube and a chap said to me “ Sanchez should get out of my club” He went on to say “ He is sh*t”

My response was he isn’t that good. And he isn’t !

Not according to the clubs' own report on the Wrexham fixture :

https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/report-chelsea-5-wrexham-0

Goalkeeping duties shared between Cumming and Bergstrom, with Kepa on the bench. No mention of Sanchez anywhere.

Also that article you linked to isn't from 17/7/23 it was written on18/7/24, so of course Sanchez was in the party, as the article is about Maresca's pre-season tour, not Pochettino's.

So many criticism on Sanchez but he is pretty much in the same category with almost all of our player, good/very good but probably should not be nailed down starter.

He just play in a position where rotation is not a common option

No way on earth does Sanchez fall into the Good / Very Good category. He should be nowhere near a Top 6 side.

That article is Maresca's pre season (18/07/2024). I know its painful to remember but Sanchez was here under Poch too.

Sanchez on first impressions and exciting challenge ahead
Here's an actual article following Sanchez's first pre-season training session with us on 07/08/2023, a month after Brighton signed his replacement.

The teams performances might have been the same but the GK position improved once Steele was promoted over Sanchez. Steele keeping a clean sheet in 40% of his games, compared to Sanchez's 26.1%. Better post shot xG - aG etc.

I don't dislike Sanchez as a person and i actually feel a bit sorry for him. Ben Roberts is clearly in someones ear about his 'son' and Sanchez is the most public example of the issues behind the scenes with the club imo.

Like you say, agree to disagree.

No way on earth does Sanchez fall into the Good / Very Good category. He should be nowhere near a Top 6 side.
Sanchez is a terrific cross catcher, decent shot stopper, good with short passes, awful at chip ball.

If you want complete gk then go get elite talent but that is not blue co strategy.

He's none of those things. Sanchez makes the occasional good save but he's a goalkeeper and as Roy Keane would say "that's his job".

He makes mistakes pretty much every game. The defence cannot rely on him. He's as bad with the ball at his feet as Mendy was.

I would love an "Elite" goalkeeper but would happily take one who is just better than Sanchez and there are loads out there who meet that criteria.

Our definition of VERY GOOD is VERY DIFFERENT
