You think Rooney deserved it even though Drogba had more goals and assists despite leaving for a month to the African Cup of Nations and playing with a hernia problem for much of the season?
Yes, I think Rooney developed personally and let the line pretty much on his own for us last year, he had all of his goals in the forst 3/4 of the season and was injusred from there on. That injury was the most influencial factor on us not winning the league last year.

A Utd fan and a Chelsea fan debating the Drogba vs Rooney issue is probably as pointless as a Liverpool fan and a CHelsea fan debating the Lampard vs Gerrard issue as both minds are already set and there is never going to be any convincing.

Bottom line is Drogba and Rooney both has stunning seasons last season. Drogba may have been hindered by his hernia problem and going away for the ACN and Rooney may have been hindered by the fact the team around him was not as good as the team around Drogba.

They are different players with strengths and weaknesses the other doesn't have. They are both excellent goalscorers so there is little point comparing that part of their game. Rooney is better than Drogba when playing from deep, bringing other players into the game and attacking on the break. Drogba is better than Rooney at bullying defences, at set pieces, and at defending set pieces.

When push comes to shove individuals don't matter - what wins the league is the team rather than an individual. Rooney and maybe Vidic are the only two United players who would get into our first team reasonably comfortably. When you flip that question we have far more players who would improve the United side.

I translated that into "Drogba got robbed". ::ChElSeaFLag::

I actually think we (might not of been you specifically but on this forum and I think you were involved) discussed this exact topic end of last season. This took place when Rooney and Drogba were pretty much equal on goals and we did discuss how Rooney's accomplishments were somewhat more of an acheivement due to being in an inferior team (Sorry King, but thats how I and many here feel, not that you dont have a very highly talented team yourself). However, Drogba than rampaged to more goals and assists!

Anyways both top class on their day and as mentioned both bring different strengths to the table!

One thing I would say is that if Drogba was English and Rooney wasn't I would bet my mortgage it would have been Drogba who was named player of the year last season.

Exactly this.

Fair piont Loz. being a brit does give you a big advantage in these things. Especially in a world cup year.

still dropping alot of points to teams you should be beating shows how much you do rely on rooney being on top form as for berbay*d he is quality but not quite the work horse potato head is, so as long as spud face is battling his demons i think you will struggle this year...

UNited relying on one man in their team, again? Surely not

They've got that lad own goal as well which I have not seen this season so far, surely should be on form soon enough though.

Hope so, he was our second top scorer last season i think. Top man, and we got him on a free transfer too!! ;)

I think the deadly pairing of Own Goal and Beach Ball would be a match for any team. Couple those with the ref who gives goals when they aren't and you're in for one hell of a game.

i cant believe this plast manc helmet's being entertained. such a toby.
That's what I thought - still we are nice people, we are top the league and quite chuffed with that, we can afford to be benevolent.

BTW, manker, what happened to your avatar of some scouse pisshead? It wasn't as good as the current one, but i just wondered why you changed it!
