Any enjoyable tales following England, home or abroad trips, as a CFC supporter, back in the bad 'good 'ol days ... :O)

It is well documented that England had a good CFC turn-out, at times for many years by all accounts.

Any memories shared would be very appreciated ...

Its well known Chelsea used to have untold lads on duty at England away games, they ran the show for quite a while as well
Have a read of this book, its quality

Thanks for the info. CB ... very appreciated. I'll definitely look out for this one ... :O)

There is a lesser known CFC book, written by one of the Tunbridge Wells lads that contains some excellent England CFC stories ... I quite enjoyed it ... this is the book if people don't know it ...

Talking about 'back in the day' CFC books ... the one that i wish had got written would simply have been titled "Babs Eccles CFC" ,,, instant best seller ...

First went to a England away game in 1977 in Luxumberg, not many St george's flags about in those days.Think England needed to win 9-0 and only won 2-0 and went on the rampage smashing the ground, town and the luxumberg army which were called in.I also remember going back to the ground the next day to get some pictures and there was some fans there early in the morning smashing what was left up again. As a 16 year old it was quite a eye opener.

Norway 81 and a 2-1 loss, went by coach and boat, never used to fly in those days cant remember why, weather it was too expensive or what.Chelsea always had good numbers around this time, probably because it was the only way to see a game in Europe(unlike nowadays).I seem to recall scousers asking for our help as west ham were taking the piss,The hammers always done their own thing, never went with anyone.Scousers were only interested in robbing(nothing changes there then)utd had good numbers, but i would say chelsea had the best numbers around this time.I recall being told that any trouble would result in 30 days jail no questions asked, and at half time it all kicked off with the old bill, someone behind me threw a bottle what knocked a copper straight out and they piled in for a arrest. As i stepped aside to let them pass they arrest me and i thought F**king hell i'm in trouble here.As in goes the fifty odd chelsea i went with steamed in and i managed to get away and went straight back to the coach missing the second half(not that i missed much) and was glad when we finally set off for home.

Switzerland 1981,again went by coach and boat from Battersea and was involved in a full scale riot before we had even left.(pic of battersea lot on Hicky's coach link).Well this started when 5 blokes had a row with 5 blacks(if i'm allowed to say that) outside our pub in Battersea.(this was at a time when the race riots were on).Within 10 mins it was like bloody Zulu with the blacks pouring off the estates to have a go,there was two coach loads of us waiting to leave and believe me we had our backs to the wall fighting them off and in the end after the old bill turned up we were escorted off in our coaches.Got to France and both coaches broke down and we had to wait for them to be repaired, fighting on the boat(think it was west ham)Riot in switzerland after we lost 2-1 again.Funny enough i remember it being a good trip.

Denmark 82,another good turn out by chelsea fans and another riot,All i can recall about this trip was how big some of the danes were,no wonder the vikings sacked everything, and hicky flying down the terraces into plain clothes old bill and waking up in hotel room after a night on it with this big heavy viking sword in the corner what my mate had nicked from a bar.

Boat to Norway, took us something like 21 hours to get there, sleeping cabins, casino's and disco and on the piss for most of the way, used to love coming back into Dover with all the flags over the side of the boat and hundreds of fans singing God save the queen,Rule Britannia, and the rest.used to make me bloody proud.

Spain 82, and another long trip.Train to paris, then a boat to Santaner i think it was and then a train though spain to Barclelona and up to a place called Blanes(near lloret de mar.My mates were already out there so turned up on the beach and walked up and down for about 3 hours till i found them and dossed down in there apartment with about 12 others.Day of the game v France got a train to Barclelona and a 12 hour trip to madrid.Loads of chelsea in with the French and it all kicked off,ob with electric prods battering everyone and a 12 hour trip back.Stayed a part of the trip in the basque region who loved us and even arranged a game of football them v us.

Spain again,in a spain 82 offical hooligan tee shirt(loads had them not just me),Met a Belgium standard liege fan out there and we got chatting and swapped addresses, six months later he turns up with no warning on my doorstep,so i put him up for a few days and take him out on the piss and even took him to a tattooist
and he had a Chelsea tattoo done.Used to swap letters with him like a pen pal now and again and the last i heard from him was he was in a Belgium jail for some football
related thing.Got a picture of him somewhere proudly showing off his Chelsea tattoo next to his standard liege one
