Joao Pedro scores his second goal this afternoon.

He's great. Would be an excellent signing for Sunderland.
I thought so, his sending off at The SOL in the final game of last season made me wonder. I note he played the entire match today. Have you others who can play in his position? I believe you will mount a serious title challenge this season but can't afford a weak link.

If three at the back is the tactic we stick to, I'd rather we go for natural wingbacks, rather than wingers in that positions. No need to experiement with Neto there and also keep Palestra not in his natural position and force him on the left.

@bluelightening i though JP was excellent today. I know you don’t rate him highly and it’s only a pre season game but I’m wondering if what you’ve seen from him has mellowed or changed your opinion?

I think he gets 20 this season.
We were atrocious across the park last season. Players who remain after the cull have a lot to prove to fans, they were f**king terrible last season, a number of them need to earn the praise (Palmer/ Fofana (I wouldnt shake hands with) Neto). Basically, anyone who gave up and bottled the season for us, they should be on thin ice. Alonso needs to instil a winning, ruthless streak in players whose mentality is weaker than a stream of Foster's piss after a downpour. (The commentators highlighted the fact we lost 17 games or something last season after being in front, most of that coming at Stamford Bridge. We need it to be a fortress)

Ive said JP's numbers were one better than Jackson in his debut year. The Brazilian needs to have a huge season for us and actually hit 20+ league goals and be banging them in for the cup runs. He cannot go missing for a quarter of a season if we are to have any hope of top four. (I think he does that and he will agitate to move to Spain the moment Madrid or Barca start sniffing his lucky undies) The same can and should be said of Palmer who last season looked a shadow of the player who turned up. Ive pretty much given up all hope on Enzo leaving us so whatever Pochetino, Maresca, Rosenior faced, so does Alonso. I hope he doesnt get irritated by the board's ongoing gambling addiction to spending hundreds of millions on youngsters. (Im hoping that the new anti-betting focus extends to owners, given how King Power syndicate are selling up Im hoping this also extends to Brighton who are essentially propped up by a gambler)

I switched off the game today, pre-season toss and we'll only have an idea about it all after the first 90 mins is over. WC disruption and obviously players who went will get injured over the course of the season.

I am hopeful for Alonso as a manager, but he has to get his ideas across sharpish because a poor start will have him under pressure. I think we're really lucky to have a title-winning coach in charge.

This squad need to be bang on it and running/ tackling and shooting from inside and outside the box and all over the park to win me over because Im not going to give up my weekends watching the sh*t that was served up last term by these players again this season. Anyone who isnt trying needs to be binned. CFC cant afford to keep standing by Lavia and the permenantly injured brigade because theyre taking up squad spaces fit and able bodies should be occupying.

Its another transition season ahead of us, we wont be near the title imo, we'll be lucky to hit top 4, more than capable if JP decides he can better Jackson's tally in two seasons and Palmer and Rogers set the world alight. Reserving judgement and as I've said before, I hope alonso isnt a one-trick pony manager like Big Phil Scolari was, Christ, the trauma of being stuck with Boswinga for a number of seasons still haunts me. Now its Fofana and enzo.

How highly, or not, is Fofana regarded?
Xabi Alonso likes him. If he could stay fit and get back to being 80% of the player he was at Leicester before all the injuries he could be a great defender again.

Fofana’s positioning is horrendous as well, why on earth they’ve let him take the number 3 shirt, which is essentially backing him as a starter.

It's only because Chavarría wanted the number 29 shirt

Ridiculously low level IQ individual both on & off the field that is compensated for by his borderline elite athleticism.
Don’t forget the twat is suspended first two matches.

Did he say that? I’ve not seen anything. He wore the number 3 for Rayo Vallacano.. so the logical thing would be to continue with that number.

Unless there’s a quote otherwise, I’d say Fofana has big bro’d him, and took it upon himself.

Cognitive dissonance. In public Fofana may say 'I didn't want to wear the same number as that donkey-lover Havertz' but in private he's seething.

Thought he played slightly better in the number trois. Still needs to f*ck off back to France IMO.

Didn't watch the game. Just highlights. The result flattered us didn't it? The way they got us in transition in just a matter of 1-2 passes so quick was worrying
