Like you I'm no great fan of Fergie but he did a great job at Aberdeen and created a very good side. Before that he managed East Stirlingshire and St. Mirren where he would have had a limited budget and lesser players. Pep has - and correct me if I'm wrong - managed Barcelona, Bayern Munich and now City where he has considerable financial backing and very good players. It would have been interesting if he had started his managerial career with smaller teams and a limited budget and how he would have fared.I could have won the treble with this City team. I'm no fan of Fergie, but I'd like to see Pep do an Aberdeen.
I don't see doing it at a small club as relevant to managing the biggest teams. Pep probably couldn't have done what AVB did at Porto either, we'll never know, but he's still a better manager. Pep was good enough to go straight into a huge team with Barca and completely revolutionise football. Pep has solely influenced the sport and revolutionised it to dominate multiple times, what long standing legacy did Fergie implement that is still used so widely today? Fergie should be compared to Mourinho imo, Pep is in a league of his own.I could have won the treble with this City team. I'm no fan of Fergie, but I'd like to see Pep do an Aberdeen.
The difference is Fergie was winning league titles with Michael Carrick and Anderson as his midfielders.Pep was outclassing Fergie when Fergie was still a manager, what he's done since he's retired has solidified my opinion. The league is 10x more competitive now and Pep still makes it look like a walk in the park.
Pep would never let a team get that bad, poor forward planning by Fergie. Patched the wounds that last season by splashing big on an ageing Van Persie for one last title before he bowed out. Left his blessed club in a shocking state on his way out.The difference is Fergie was winning league titles with Michael Carrick and Anderson as his midfielders.
He had an awful team after Ronaldo left and still somehow kept winning titles, if not winning them always being a point behind. They had no right to be so close to us when we won it under Carlo.
Difference is Mourinho has always been quite rigid, hence his downfall. 4231 target man striker and strong defensively. Pep has adapted the way he plays pretty much every season and always keeps his squad fresh selling people just as he sees they might be leaving their prime like Sterling. Absolutely no one would have seen the John Stones playing RB and drifting into holding midfield throughout the game, now managers are trying to do the same. For me, Pep is the greatest football revolutionary since Cruyff, with Mourinho, Wenger and SAF a level below.Pep so far has been fortunate managing teams with money to spend.
It will be interesting to see how long he stays in the game to see if like Mourinho someone younger using or improving his tactics comes along to challenge.
Fergie never had the resources that Pep has had at City. Pep once spent over 200 million in one transfer window just on fullbacks.Pep would never let a team get that bad, poor forward planning by Fergie. Patched the wounds that last season by splashing big on an ageing Van Persie for one last title before he bowed out. Left his blessed club in a shocking state on his way out.
That purple kit is irresistable. Plus the opponent are Pikeys.Come on Fiorentina !
