Giving your own players stick

Love the reporter from about 3:13 onwards..."most of the trouble was from the stands, not the terraces"

Was in gate 13 that night, wasn't pretty....
After the match was the chels , west ham incident at parsons green, they were on their way back from Wimbledon. Nothing to do with me, honest.

yeh, didn't see soul boys post earlier, about the same incident, but what a night.

Torres I remember getting not necessarily "stick", but there was quite a bit of division amongst the supporters about whether or not he should be sold or if we should have acquired him in the first place. I just remember slapping my palm against my face whenever I saw that he was starting, or on the roster as a sub.

What year was is when Durie first played against us? I remember a 1-1 draw at WHL around 92, think Sherringham may have dived for a late pen for them, and he got untold stick but he must have already played against us. Am I mixing a few games against them up here?

I remember the whole of the Park Lane chanting "Judas where are ya" at the Durie game. Never showed!

My mates had season tickets in the East Upper for a while and there was a bloke who used to have it in for Kerry Dixon.  Remember us all p*ssing himself as he stood up and gave the w*nker sign when King Kerry missed a decent chance once.

I think it was 1991 if I recall correctly.

Alan Dickens got a load of abuse if I recall correctly. And this was mentioned earlier in the thread but my Dad recalls the abuse often aimed at Peter Houseman.

I reckon getting on players backs at the grounds is a lot less common nowadays. As much as nearly everyone knew Torres was hopeless and finished, he received next to no in stadium abuse. Some groans but that was pretty much all. And Mikel is another modern era player who isn't held in the highest esteem amongst a lot of fans but you don't hear him barracked at games.

chris sutton was another he used get it in the neck, remember fleck, beasant used to get terrible stick from the lurch, remember being in the shed giving steve orgrizivic? proper abuse,

" there's only one ugly keeper, one ugly keeper" hazard as has been mentioned used get the treatment as well but was a quality player who won everyone in the end.

Meant to say beasant used get stick from the west stand and benches who called him lurch!

Surely being under contract is enough?

Every time a player is linked with a move away from the club I don't feel that they need to come out and publicly comment in the same way that the club itself (as a general rule) does not comment on transfer speculation.

Maybe Terry did get a generous offer from City but ultimately he stayed at the club and continues to be here as our most successful club captain of all time.
I think he was doing what he does best off the pitch, winding up the press tighter than an eight-day clock.

The Shed calling Osgood a c**t and he responded with two fingers. He was playing for Southampton so not really one of our own.
i can remember that game, osgood's first time back at the bridge after signing  for Southampton

he went  in for a tackle against micky droy in front of the west stand, droy got the better of him and osgood went to grab the ball of of droy, droy had words with ossie, looked like droy told him to f**k off ?

ossie moans to the ref, and droy gives ossie the w**ker sign

there was cheers all around the ground, he wasn't that welcome to the bridge that night,

most people seam have forgotten that  ?

all these banners you see nowadays about king of Stanford bridge

Dixon was the target of more than a few for while. When we played Watford away (in the cup I think) at the height of the celery craze he was getting it badly, booing and whatnot. Took a Spurs mate of mine that day and he couldn't understand the vitriol aimed towards him. I was almost embarrassed to be a Chelsea fan that day.

That was because at the time the press were linking him with a move to Arsenal, cant remember any details though, so dont know if he said he fancied it .

the one that springs to mind because it was about an established player and one who continued to receive abuse despite being a regular first teamer for many years (although being pretty rubbish most of the time) was Houseman (RIP)

yes, crowd really turned on Joe McLaughlin after that one game when he gave away the penalty, but I also didnt know the background about his family, thanks for putting that straight.

we used to sing all the players names pre match, and joe's tune was joe joe, super joe, super joe mclaughlin. that changed to eff off, eff off joe, eff off joe mclaughlin. his replacement in the team was kenny monkou and we dreamed up a similar song for him which went ken ken, super ken.....

we were telling joe to eff off long after he already had!

couple more players to comment on:

darren wood used to get some stick, although i think we realised he was trying his best.

not his fault that he was put in midfield instead of micky hazard - i dont think hazard ran around enough for Hollins' liking - great player though, couldnt care less about what team he came from.

graham wilkins - not sure he would have played as many games were it not for his brother - i seem to recall he scored more than his fair share of own goals?

durie - really hurtful when he left, and would have been bad enough if he had gone to rangers but spurs was unforgivable. we didnt have a bad team then and it really was a let down, so he deserved all the subsequent stick. i dont like the abramovitch era much when you can just go and buy players for millions of pounds, but it is nice not to have to sell your best players like we had to with durie dixon and others.

we used to sing all the players names pre match,
When did that stop?   I've often wondered.  We used to sing them in turn and they'd turn round and wave.

Malden Casual, Durie's first game against us was 91/92 when we won 3-1. The game when Sheringham dived was 1-1 in 93/94. Cascarino for Chelsea.
