OK, so I have been lured, no, enticed down the path of installing Google Chrome. It doesn't look too bad, initially, but I have an issue with it in this very forum.

Whenever I log in, I go to "View New Posts" to see what latest load of twaddle has been posted by you lot since I last logged in. When I do this in Chrome, I get the red slap on the arse banner page that says, basically, "There ARE no new posts, stupid. Jeezus, haven't you got any fecking idea at all how these forums work?"

BUT, If I log in using IE, there they are, but only since I logged in in Chrome. If the first log in of the day is in IE there are pages of nonsense.

So, IT wizards (And Mod) - WTF?

Google chrome isn't very good in general by my experience. But the best web browser around at the minute I think is Mozilla Firefox which has never given me any problems at all.

 
No idea, it's probably a cookies issue where it has seen the new posts already. Delete all your cookies and cache to refresh it all.

Then put chrome in the recycle bin, and go download this http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

I'll give that a go, but you have to bear in mind that I am an OLD fecker, and might take some time getting to understand a new browswer!

It will be a breeze YB, if you can use chrome and IE, you will love Firefox.

I don't think there are any issues with getting new posts with Chrome as some use it, it will be to do with your board cookies.

But you can't really go wrong with Firefox and once thats installed, have a look at the add-ons you can add to it https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

 
For goodness sake, YB, even I can use Mozilla Firefox. But I often find older men blame their tools. ::clap2::

 
Do you use add-ons and the like on Firefox? If not, I suggest Chrome is actually better for you. Firefox is great, but using it for basic browsing alone is like using a tank to pop down the shops. The possibilities with Firefox are endless with it being open source, but it is possibly the slowest web browser ever (when loading the program, not web-pages). Chrome loads itself pretty damn quickly when compared to IE, Firefox, and even Opera.

I probably under-use Firefox myself and I have a few add-ons which I use. Those being Stumbleupon, Fasterfox, Netvideohunter (which downloads videos from youtube), Flagfox, LastPass, iMacros, AVG, and the spell checker... Actually, I very rarely use iMacros, but yeah, that's still probably underusing it.

I beg to differ, it's easily the fastest of what I've used. I've used Firefox, IE and Chrome, and Firefox is easily the quickest.

At loading up the program itself, rather than loading up web-pages.

i do kind of agree with eggy. firefox is pretty slow on load, certainly slower than google. i wont even mention IE as its utter cat sh*t...

I'm with you. So if you get 2 seconds extra wait on start up, the page speed, security and power is far superior than any browser. For the record, my IE8 takes 4 times as long to start than firefox.

Eggy, I wouldn't compare it to driving a tank to the shops. More like it gets you to the shops better than anything else and you can do much more at the shops without the thought of getting your wallet nicked!

The thing is though, Chrome actually has a faster page load speed than Firefox as well, is about as secure, and it's faster to start up. That's what I'm really comparing it to. I'm not sure about power, but for what YB is going to use it for, I reckon Chrome would be a better option.

I think my tank analogy was quite apt. It's slower to get going, but about as fast as most once it's rolling. Who's going to steal anything from you if you're driving a tank anyway? Oh and you can carry a fair amount in the boot of a tank :P

Chrome is like driving a Golf GTI to the shops, it's small, nimble, gets going quickly, and a tank would struggle to catch it. You may struggle to do all the things like off-roading which you can do in a tank, but you can definitely go down to the shops easily and buy everything you need to.

IE would be more like driving a pogo stick, you'll get there eventually, but it'll be a bit wobbly, and slow. You'll struggle to do much though.

Anyway eggy, the chrome vs Firefox debate has reached full time now because you ironically posted that message from Firefox. :P

I would actually rank IE8 higher than Chrome.

I kind of covered that though.... I use Firefox because of the add-ons, but I'm saying that YorkleyBlue would be more suited to using Chrome. I'm not saying it's a better browser, they just have different things which they're good at. The add-ons make Firefox better for me, because well, I use them. I'm saying that people not using them, are wasting the best part of it and should probably just use Chrome.
