Players taunting each other on the pitch is as much part of football as cricketers sledging each other. Mostly just harmless banter aimed at trying to provoke somebody into a reaction, or to put them off their game. It does'nt mean that person has to be homophobic. Insults are, what they are meant to be, insulting. Wayne Rooney (you fat ba$tard)
Ian Rush (offside, he's nose is always offside)
Matt le tissier (both)
Its just not PC to call people certain things. Spurs call themselves the 'Spuds' army, yet if we call them Spuds's we could be evicted from the ground for Rascism(don't get me wrong i'm not condoning rascism). But calling somebody a Spuds does'nt mean i hate all jews(Is'nt Roman jewish?). Cheryll Cole was accused of being a rascist because during an argument with a toilet attendent she used the'N' word. The woman is married to Ashley for christ sake. Did she insult the woman, yes. Is she a rascist, no.
If i dropped anchor in poo bay i dont think i'd be to bothered about being called a poof, in fact i'd probably try and use it to provoke other players on the pitch. A little pat on the bum and/or a wink might provoke a reaction if somebody was homophobic. I'd have the oppositions hardman sent off every week.(theres even ammunition in the term 'hardman').
Being straight, if somebody suggested i liked to take it up the dirt box
i'd just laugh at them. Like we do when opposition fans call us rent-boys. I just think people, in all walks of life need to get a grip, and stop being so bloody touchy.
