78 it was, your right. Swain scores twice. A bit hairy outside.
I had a feeling it was that Spurs match going by the fashion and what people were wearing at the time of year.  I was 16 for this one and had heard that the meet was at Victoria at Midday, revenge for 1975 although many of us were too young to have been at that match.  When we got to Victoria there was a massive mob already there, singing and patrolling the street so down to the tube everyone went, probably 500 maybe even 1000 strong.  As the train got to Seven Sisters we went to get off (first time to WHL) but the older blokes told everyone to stay on, the few OB on the train thought we were mad.  Off everyone gets at Tottenham Hale and this massive mob makes it's way to the ground, as we get into Park Lane the pace quickens, the bobbing of heads trying to see what's going on at the front as we near the ground and then it's a full scale sprint, a mighty roar and the mobs meet.  To this day I don't know how many Spurs there were waiting, I couldn't see, but we never backed off and made our way to the turnstiles and into the ground.  Spurs were below us in the paddock next to the Park Lane, us younger ones expecting them to come in to where we where but it never happened, told that Babs and his boys were ready and waiting for them.  Lot's of finger pointing, w**ker signs, offering out and then a Spurs fan comes over the hoarding onto the pitch after being hit on the head by a flying bottle.  I saw nothing afterwards, got on a bus to Seven Sisters and home, later to hear it had all kicked off there.

Maybe that photo is the same mob, maybe not and I don't remember it being so spread out.  If not then we really were impressive in those days having the leaders elsewhere.

I did start with the London aways in the first season in Div 2 as well as Oxford so I probably would have been 14 too, same for the next season and then really started the season back in the first.  I'd love to have been a regular at those Div 2 matches.

AND.......I was 20 in 75....AND i had long hair.....And i had a 26" waistline........HOHO how times have changed

I only ever went on Hickeys coach once, with a mate. Neil Harris. Only 16 at the time. Derby away. 4th Feb 1978. Game got postponed, so we went to Coventry-Liverpool. We went straight in the Coventry end. I remember Hickey saying to us " Just keep with us", maybe because we were first timers. Somebody clouted a Coventry bloke. The OB led us up the away end, where I remember it was divided in Two. Liverpool One half, and all the teams whose games were called off that day in the other. Got outside, and these Coventry lads decided to throw rocks at the coach. Drove back to London in a coach with smashed and broken windows. Got dropped off near Victoria, and decided we would go back on the train.  I don't remember who was on the coach, names wise. My memory has always been bad.

I know exactly what you mean, Mike. I was 18 in 1975, had long curly hair, and was surprisingly slim considering how much beer I used to put away. It was a shame that the skinhead style had disappeared by then, used to love wearing all the gear, and I never got into the Casual scene. Apart from my exotic brand-name donkey jacket, Wimpey written across the back - superb style, I think you'll agree, and pockets that easily accommodated bottles of Newcastle Brown.

But I digress...my long curly hair is now shorter and thinning, my beard is mostly white, and my waistline has reached a size I can't even count up to - life is so unfair!

Talking about putting on a bit of weight over the years  anyone seen Fat Harry about

I was at Sp*ds in '75 aged 19. Very scarey, ended up on the pitch before kick off and it was kicking off! Watched the match from under one of the floodight pylons and barely drew breath for the 90 minutes. Travelled to the match with my mate Pat from Sutton, met up with some Wimbledon lads and then went onto meet up with Mick Greenaway with about 200 Chelsea at Fulham Broadway and travelled to WHL. I think it was in '74 I went to my first away game and that was at Sp*ds, they were parading the league cup and when they trotted past the Chelsea end Alan Mullery was greeted with a hail of small change and Walkers crisp - Walkers sponsored the match and had been handing out packets to the fans, the Sp*ds fans ate theirs, we slung ours back!! Went to that game with my cousin and a group of his mates from Stockwell... got married when I was 20 so my away days were seriously curtailed for the next 20 years!!
