Liverpool away midweek League cup 1978 game turned out to be a great day out despite the inevitable 2-0 defeat. As per usual we travelled up on the normal train from Euston. I don't remember if alcohol was still allowed on BR at that time but if so would definitely have had a skinful on the train. For some reason by the time we had walked along Scottie Road to the ground there was only me and a mate left from the usual contingent. I'm pretty sure we had consumed a fair bit of beer by this time and in a show of bravado we decided to head for the Kop. Just along from the famous stand in Walton Breck Road there is a pub, I think it is called The Park, not sure of that though. It was at least an hour and a half to kick off, maybe more, when we deposited ourselves at the bar in said pub. We half expected to get a kicking as soon as we opened our mouths but instead a large much older guy next to us became all matey. It turned out he was a docker and for the next hour or two we exchanged rounds with him including chasers. Needless to say we could barely stand up by the time this genuinely friendly scouser led us into the Kop before kick off. Where we stood to the right of the goal and about half way up the stand was pretty packed and by halftime, the game had passed us by in an alcoholic blur in which we both if I remember rightly had taken to singing Chelsea songs raucously, our new friend had exited stage left. My mate suddenly had the urge to empty his bowels and decided that the rumours of people pissing in your pocket gave him the right to bypass the toilets and do it where he stood on the terrace. I wasn't quite as out of it as he was and noticed that the locals were not too happy with his decision so I grasped his arm and dragged him up to the back of the stand before we got a right pasting. During the second half we stood behind the Kop choir, basically hundreds of young kids, and gave them a taste of our own melodic chanting (sic). Again we were befriended, by a ginger headed youth ( from Birkenhead) who seemed to be amazed that any Chelsea fans had ventured onto his hallowed turf. After the game the young scouser took us for a drink at an Everton pub hidden in the middle of the tower blocks alongside Scotland Road. Outside the ground their was some scuffling and a few bricks thrown and Arkins winked at us as he ran past the Kop no doubt looking for a bit of 'action', most of the regular away support then knew each other by sight if not by name or on speaking terms. We managed to top up our depleted reserves in a couple more pubs before catching a late train back to the Smoke. All in all a great day out.

Preston away around 1981 the game where gary lee RIP was killed, we took their end and there was a bit of a crush as it went off with people falling all over the place, funniest moment for me was being led round the pitch to the away end and someone in front of me leaning through the escort  and saying to nobby stiles  their manager at the time , " whats it like to run at home ?" , quality!

Many thanks for the match report on the Leicester game, cfcblue - I'd love to say it brought back lots of memories, but unfortunately I must have overdone it on the booze again that day! Got vague memories of travelling up to that one in the back of a Ford Transit with about two dozen of South London's finest mad-mental piss artists
Always enjoyed going to Leicester, never a dull moment!
Would that be with a few chaps from Lewisham ?

Id have to say out of around 60 grounds visited, a guess at half of home ends have seen me...these would have been from a shy boy following others from around 68 to a mental f**k circa 91, then slowly waining to now when obviously there are hardly any chances in the last 14 years or whatever....My personal chelsea contract , whether i have a ticket in place or not is to aquire tickets to spuds and west ham at the Bridge....these are musts....other matches when or if i want now...Spurs will always be met and greeted by me untill i die.

Charlton away 1976/77 season, lost 4-0. Still at school, never seen anything like it. We were everywhere.

Another silly memory-Walsall away. Climbed a fence to get in their end but got covered in paint! Must of been some sort of anti-vandal stuff.

Glad I didn't waste my youth.

Was at that Chalton game up on that massive terrace they had along the side of the pitch. I was only 7 standing with my dad and an older cousin who actually supports Arsenal. It was bloody chaos fires on the terraces pitch invasions going on whilst on the pitch we got well turned over. It was a long time ago but im sure i remember us scoring but the goal getting dissallowed because a fan had kept the ball in for our player to cross it :-)

My dad also took my couisin to Arsenal V Tottenham that Easter where it also went off big time but my cousin still says that Charlton Chelsea game is the worst he ever saw at a match!! I can think of a few Chelsea matches that would rival it :-)

It was a trail of destruction afterwards, all you could hear were windows breaking, the turnstiles at the home end were smashed to pieces.  On the way back to London Bridge the train was ripped apart and one bloke in our gangway got an axe from the guards bit and started chopping up the outside of the carriage leaning out of the window.  Then at London Bridge the mayhem continued.

I think, talking of trains , when the special got the famous burning crack , that that must have been the most embarassing song chelsea have sung......................Chelsea sing

                                                    Chelsea fight

                                                    Chelsea set the train alight

                                                    LA LA LA LA....LALALA...LALA

Cringeworthy

Bluebeards list has jogged a few cells and could now add to my list if I could locate.

Chelsea took West Ham circa 1970 give or take a year or two, I was not there but old West ham friend assures me this is correct.

Norwich Away league cup QF Chelsea has extra large crombie wearing contingent in the Barclay, don't remember any dividing fence, I think the fence was put up later and that was followed by a cage.

Sheffield Weds Cup game, there was a large contingent of us in their end all the game. There was another mob of Chelsea who more than repelled the well wishers from Sheffield via a sort of tunnel running under and near the top of the stand. Remember one of our fans at the turnstiles who was hemmed in and a police horse was chewing lumps out of his sheepskin.

The Millwall game was disorganized but we had more than a substantial amount of bodies in the CBL, As far as I am aware no other team has ever tried to take their end let alone have that amount of away fans in it?, it was more than confusing, all the scarfs were blue and white at one stage there were literally dozens and dozens of fans on the floor wrestling, kicking and punching each other near a concrete upstand on the CBL, never seen this anywhere else. I ended up at the back next to railings on their halfway line side, their fans were pouring over from the half way bit, I had a bloke with a trumpet / small vuvezala style blowing it in my ear trying to rally the Millwall. I got alienated and left the CBL second half, as far as I can remember there were no police on the CBL that day.?
 i really doubt that
