8.6 mill for Ivanovic, and 10 milllion for Anelka are great deals. But if we are being given 50 mill by Roman, will we realistically spend over half of that on Berbatov? I just get the feeling that he will be a huge risk

I really think that we should be looking elsewhere other than berbatov, just incase the saga gets drawn out. We should not be placing all our eggs in one basket. 26 mill on a proven goalscorer, yes. 26 mill on a whinging bar steward with an Ego the size of Jimmy's arse, no thanks

Well if we are to believe that article then Grant wants two strikers (Berbatov & Anelka) a right-back (Ivanovic?) and also a midfielder.

So if we sign Anelka, Ivanovic and Berbatov for the prices the article mentions then we will have spent 44.6 mill.

If Grant is getting 50 mill to spend then that would leave us with a bit over 5 mill for a midfielder. Can we really get a good enough midfielder for that price?

There's been talks about Van Der Vaart but I really don't think we'll get him. I would be very surprised if he didn't end up in Juventus.

So what other midfielders have we been linked with?

Finally, 26 mill for Berbatov seems like too much for me. I know he's good but that's still alot of money. Could probably find cheaper ones who are just as good.

Personally I would like Klose but I don't think that's going to happen

ps. how do you know 8.6 million for Ivanovic is a great deal?. I've never seen him play, have you?

50mill sounds really good, but if we splash out that much we have to expect some of our beloved players to leave as well.

I would be really pleased with: Van Der Vaart, Anelka and Ivanovic (who is this bloke?).

I don't think we are going to get VDV in january or even in summer, but I would love to have him at SB.

I think we are going to get Anelka and this Ivanovic guy and maybe some surprise midfielder. I love surprises

!

Who will leave, I dont know. Maybe Sidwell.. We need to get a replacement then naturally. Bridge possibly if this unknown serbian comes.

I think we'll go for Anelka, Ivanovic, Van de Vaart (as Modric looks like he is staying), Alves and another young striker (eg, Huntelaar)

why do we need the guy? apparently this Ivanovic guy plays at centre back but can play anywhere along the back. He'll probably want 1st team football which he wont get and although he's not brilliant I am perfectly happy with Ben Haim as 4th choice

If he expects to play in the first team it would be odd if he joined us. Surely he knows JT and Riccy are the first choices.

The reason we buy him is simple.

1. He's talented (apparently).

2. He can play anywhere in defence.

3. He's young.

Unless we sell Ben Haim we might send Ivanovic on loan somewhere.

if he'd replace ferriera, wouldn't he replace belleti too?
Personally I feel that nobody should be replacing Belleti with his current form. He has been a major contributor in securing the last six points.

excatly what i mean, Belleti's in good form, but will this new guy get the nod ahead of him; or just settle to be on the bench.

I know Ivanovic personly, he is a very talented player, he can play evry position from defender to midfield, he can score goals and he is good technican, so for me, a very good buy! but i would not let him play at JT or Ben Haims place, hes not that tall.

Bane is at the Right!

Is he someone who is going to come in and demand a team place immediately?

Would you be playing him ahead of Belletti if you were Chelsea manager?

No i would not play him ahead of Belleti, not at the moment, i think that he will need his time to adapt to the premiership, caus playin in russia is diffrent as playing in England, but i would play him ahead of Fererra anytime! he could play as a defend midfield, i could imagine this position for him, when Essien,Mikel, Lamps are not there, hi is young and a big potential!

Just a little here and there, but mainly I am happy that we are signing a young talent and not paying over the odds for them. 8.6 mill in todays market (and for Chelsea) is a good deal in my opinion

It looks like the delay has been caused by the work permit. I’am not going to reveal the source, I don’t want to get showered with abuse

:

Lokomotiv Moscow defender Branislav Ivanovic is expected to sign for Chelsea today.Sport Express says Chelsea are confident of securing the Serbia international's work permit today after battling through the courts. Ivanovic hasn't played 75 per cent of Serbia's recent internationals and so doesn't automatically qualify for a UK work permit.

However, Chelsea are confident they've successfully argued Ivanovic is an "exceptional talent" and will receive a positive ruling today.

According to today's Sport-Express Ivanovic was granted the work permit and is going to sign the contract on Tuesday.

Don't know much but he is a defender and was spotted at the Bridge today appears Man Utd have also agreed terms but Roman's influence will see him sign for us.Watch this space
He has passed his medical but initial work permit declined - expected to be sorted before deadline day.

Huh Star? The Russian press are saying that he has been given his work permit yesterday:

The Babel Fish translated version:

London law court permitted giving out long-term British working visa to 23- summer defender of "locomotive" and team Serbia Branislavu to Ivanovich. On Tuesday in first half of day the football player will pass medical examination, after which will be placed the signature under the 5- summer contract with "Chelsea", reported "se" in company ProSports Management, which carries out the passage of a Serbian into the London club.
