League Title

We’re doing better than expected but we still give away too many chances and it’s still early in the season.

Champions league qualification I’d be happy with TBH, how we cope when a few results aren’t going our way will define this season for us.

Use this year as experience and with a couple of summer tweaks to the squad (wholesale changes are not needed anymore IMO) we can really push from next year onwards hopefully.

Some things are exactly what they seem. Every season we are in a title race until it's no longer mathematically possible. Why is it that so many Chelsea fans are so impressed with our competitors, but never by our own team? We're doing what we are doing with the players that we already have, with some potential crackers already due to come in the new year, but still 'fans' are producing lists of players that they would prefer to see in a Chelsea shirt. Right now the internet is alive with fans singing our praises, in awe of our squad .................and terrified of what we might do to Their teams chances! I love it. Sure it may end in disappointment,  but wait until then to be disappointed, not while we are winning and looking pretty damned good for it too! 😉

We’re playing our way into the race, but they’re not ready yet. Just be good to see positive form continue and cement a CL place. 

Saying that, love this circus of a club. The highs and lows of being a Chelsea fan are unmatched!! If we won the league and conference league it would be one to remember! 

 
Liverpool so far have been carried by Salah, 70% + overall Goal contributions so far and I dont think that is sustainable for the whole season. If those numbers were to drop whether that is due to form or injury I can see Liverpool dropping a lot of points. Plus with Andy Robertson starting to show signs of slowing down and TAA having 1 eye on the exit door I can see teams starting to find ways to negate Liverpool.

We are in a similar boat with Caicedo as I don't see us winning the league if Caicedo is side-lined for a extended period of time but than again who exactly thought we'll be in a title race, I know fans who would've taken Europa League finish at the start of the season.

 
I mean, we are in the title race, and that is not always down to us.  Man Citeh have totally imploded and virtually ruled themselves out of the race. Arsenal are struggling - but then that is down to their 'winning mentality' and so the scousers are on top almost by default.  That is not a 'great' Liverpool team, they are just the best around at this moment in time. 

We are still the youngest team in the league.  That is something the media are not reporting on that much.  Our young diamonds.  Normally the media gets behind a young team. Nkunku was our oldest player yesterday and he has just turned 27 in November.

We are not 'ready' - maybe. I mean maybe we are ready?  We just have to keep wining. Enzo our Captain was 'ready' enough to win the world cup after all. 

What do we need? A goalkeeper? I thought Sanchez was excellent yesterday - but maybe in the summer a new keeper would be good. I would take Matinez from Villa.

A CB with experience?  Brentford would not gave scored yesterday had we had an experienced CB who would have made the foul and taken the yellow/red card.

Our players still lack gamesmanship as they have literally not played enough games ever.  Even Cucurella at 26 one of our ancient players got an unnecessary red yesterday which will adversely effect the team as he will now no longer be available for selection. That kind of things means we are not ready.

I think maybe we are ready.  I don't think we will win the league though and i would be happy with a top 4 finish. But you never know.

Mo Salah is super fit. Not really an injury prone player. He can keep this up all season especially as he's playing for a new contract.

Yep. If anything, I thought Klopp was badly managing him in recent seasons. There were games where he was a bit of a passenger because he couldn't keep up with the constant high intensity that Klopp demanded anymore. Slot has them playing a different way, which is now getting the best out of Salah again.

I have a feeling he will sign a new contract, but I wish he would leave, I don't think they would be where they are without him 🤣

He may not be injury prone but all it takes is a bad challenge or him pulling up with a hamstring etc. that's the risk of being overly reliant on 1 player

 
Unfortunately we have to deal with the following

Sanchez inability to play with the ball at his feet, great shot stopper, terrible footballer.

Fofanas lack of availability and the drop off in the depth behind him.

We don’t have a complete Striker. Jackson is far too inconsistent and Nkunku hasn’t shown it in the league. 
 

The Scouse have far too complete a squad I’m afraid this season for us to be seriously considered. 

 
In with a chance even if Liverpool are very warm favourites right now. They probably do have a more balanced team but I don’t think they’re amazing. Think we are neck and neck with arsenal right now as 2nd favourites, maybe they are slightly ahead.

The latest PL "outright" odds from Sky Bet have Arsenal as 2nd favourites, very marginally ahead of us.

Interestingly, the 14-1 on City was what you could get us for only a few weeks ago ... amazing where 5 straight wins can take you !

Thought Sky still including the odds for Spurs and Man United was quite amusing 🙂

Iirc, the "heated" discussion at the beginning of the season on here was between top 4, top 6 and mid-table, and outside that then the manager is sh*t. Lol

Tbh, I think we will be top 4 but yes I'll admit, I've dreamt of overtaking, winning and imagining the look on the dippers faces as it happens.

I don't understand the medias obsession with us being in the race. How can we be in the race when we haven't even guaranteed top 4.

Because there's a fun narrative of a "race" going on. Arsenal are bottlejobs and City is facing allegations so the media can't favor City too much.

We also have England's star boy so they want to be like "We knew Cole could do it" narrative and all that

?Why are we even playing? At this moment we are in a title race, and we are in the top 4. We may not have either at the end of the season, or ever again.Savour the moment, it may be all you ever get.

 
What's interesting is Liverpool and media noting the spend of the underdogs Chelsea being in the title race.  While many of us think that is premature, it got me thinking about Liverpool spend.  We all know they assembled their team for free with every single player coming through the youth side, or superbly negotiated; however, I thought inflation adjusted facts would be interesting.  Sure they could swap Nunez for Jota, or we could swap Gusto for James, but doesn't change the story.  Would agree our bench is superior vs. my starting XI (Lavia, Medueke, Nkunku, Felix, Gusto, Viega, Badiashile, Tosin, Jorgensen)

Was in a rush. In closing, I meant to say our bench is superior to the Liverpool bench (inferring that would get brought into a transfer fee discussion).

No we aren't. The manager specifically pointed it out.

A majority of fans are finally enjoying watching the team play. Proclaiming we are in a title race takes away that enjoyment
