Levi Colwill

As someone who played as a LB through academy football and later transitioned to CB on Saturdays I can confirm it’s massively different. Complete different physical profiles to compete in the channels rather than in the middle of the pitch with an outlet either side.

Some like Reece James would flourish there in a back 3, as did Azpi. It’s also why Acheampong has looked poor in a two but looks a revelation in a 3.
But Colwill hasn't played at LB under Alonso ?

And in any case, if you look at Colwill's career to date, he actually had his best PL season ratings (as per both Sofascore and Whoscored) playing mostly at left back under Pochettino, so not sure that supports your argument either LOL

LB and left CB are more similar than CB in a two and wide CB in a three.

Ratings are swayed by attacking influence (take ons, chances etc.) makes sense that would be the case if getting forward more.

My worry with Colwill has always been that he has been expected to be the 'leader' of the defense because his injuries and loans denied him the chance to play with Azpilicueta, Silva and Rudiger for any length of time. He's never really had time to be the junior partner to a more experienced defender, nor has he had the benefit of good coaching.

This has probably set him back more than anything and though he's 23, he's really only 20-21 in terms of experience.

He has all the raw skills to be one of the best defenders in the world but I don't think he is going to do that unless we build the right environment for him. It's not going to happen under Clearlake's Five Fools model.
