Man City away when we were banned

Whenever me and my mates went to Maine Rd during the early and mid 80’s (I think it was), there was some old doris ringing a sodding bell all through the game, it drove me crazy!! Anybody else remember her?

That’s my abiding memory of Maine Rd along with on one occasion running a mock with 40 or so other Blues through the streets of Manchester scattering City fans like sheep.
Yep...She passed away lst year...THE BELLRINGING LADY......I wrote to MAN CITY to ask about her as id spoken to her in the past..MAN CTY wrote back giving me this news....

SORRY....TIME FLIES AND IM SURPRISED WITH THE DIFFERENCE.....I FOUND THE LETTER I RECIEVED FROM MAN CITY IN MY BOX....THE LADY WHO SENT IT TO ME WAS PRESS OFFICE JO TOFT......AND.....IT WAS 2005...THAT THE BELLRINGING LADY, HELEN TURNER PASSED AWAY....

I remember going to Man city when banned on one of Hickys coaches and as we line up at the turnstiles to go up the kip axe but the old bill Sussed us all and put us all back on the coach and escorted us to the mother way so that was a f.......g waste of time, but still they were great days and though I am not one of Hickeys mob( I am Babs mate) I give him his due for laying on coaches to follow the blues.

Too young for the banned city game but I went to the banned Luton game, late 80's early 90's? I remember queuing up to get a burger and all I could hear was "We love you Chelsea, we do"! Even the Luton fans in front of me were laughing, must of been the worst effort of a ban ever! Just gutted we lost 2-0 would of loved to of seen how many Chelsea we're there, I'm sure we were in 3 of the stands that day.

The late 80s and early 90s we were not banned. 3 of us tried hitching it to Man City when we were banned, we got as far as Luton and gave it up. It was freezing cold as well. I think we lost 6-2.

if that's a reference to my quote, Luton banned all away support after the Millwall game that's why I said we were banned but hundreds if not thousands got in that day at Luton.

Sorry dstoner, you are right about us being banned along with everybody else at Luton until the start of the 1990/1991 season. I could not understand why we did not ban them as well ourselves. Remember a brilliant game at the Bridge against them when we were 3-0 down.

Was that the game when we finished 3-3? I remember beating them 3-0 also I was at the semi final which was a great day out. I agree we should of banned them and that silly plastic pitch!

yes it was 3-3. The semi final was brilliant, not forgetting the ovation Kerry Dixon got when he walked off.

Remember a lunchtime kick off at Maine Rd in early 80s.

We played a great game, Eddie N....ki in goal and big Joe McLaughin defending. Think we got a draw.

Loads of lads in Blackpool the night before, great trip

More than that from memory.  Plenty of northern CFC.  I think a lot of fans got their tickets off the players.  I sat next to Dennis Rofe and we hugged when we scored.
