News the weekend suggests Richards and City have failed to agree terms on a new contract with City refusing to pay Richards the £70k per week he wants.

I'd like us to sign him if possible. A top class English youngster who can make the right back birth his own while providing excellent cover at centre half as well.

Belletti as cover at right back(i know it seems strange talking about dropping him after his goal the weekend) but defensively he could be better and he's not getting any younger.

We could let Beach Tal and Paulo go if necessary to help finannce the deal. Obviously not going to happen in january but a summer move would be nice.

Is there still talk about a number of your squad having to be homegrown/English???

Is it a prem league rule or Europe??

Good shout. Right back is (defensivley) our weak spot.

Should have signed him last January when we really needed him.

Would still welcome him now.

Only if there are shorts big enough for his thighs, they're the size of tree trunks (at least, that's what they looked like from the stands). No use splashing cash otherwise...

You know, people who like football usually watches football, not the players thighs

Of course I focus solely on the football :-) but Richards' thunder thighs were hard to miss.

Is he the new Roberto Carlos then?

wouldn't mind him coming to Chelsea but not for anything near £70k a week

Yet, somehow, strange as it must seem, I have missed them

Will have to check out Man Citys next game and see what all the fuss is about

His stok is to high at the moment, would cost us about 20 odd mil, and he's not the finished article yet. may be worth holding off a year and seeing letting the contract run down a little more

Would sign him in a heart beat. One of the best young English prospects there are and will only get better. You know he will end up at one of the big four sooner or later. I mean, you wouldn't want him to end up at Man Utd, Arsenal or Everton would you

Great prospect I agree, but it isn't going to happen. We just bought a utility defender who can (apparently) play anywhere across the back four. The next defender we buy will be an Alves type of right back.

Would rather buy Richards, every oppurtunity we have to buy quality English youngsters over continental players will work in our favour in the long run.

Lets show Wenger the English kids can play.

If only the young English talent wasn't so darn overpriced.

... if its going to take a Rio Ferdinand type fee (aka transfer record for a defender) to land him, then I want a Rio Ferdinand type player to justify the fee...

You must be joking - severely over-rated.

Micah is never going to be going for anything less in the near future. His stock will continue to rise until he is "over the hill". Having said that, I don't think he will move as long as Man City show him they have a chance of competing for silverware. I give it maybe 1 or 2 seasons. After that, he'll move.

Cheers,

Butch

(PS>Oh boy, sorry Qaz...I must really get over this habit of changing other poster's words to suit myself

(PPS> Honest mistake, mate; clicked on "edit" instead of "quote"; sorry)

it just is probably because of the shortage of it. However Rooney was neither the finished article nor the best option when Man U spent a similar figure. I think we should invest in the feuture. at the end of the day it could be £2mill a year plus wages if he stays forever. thats an absolute bargin in my view (althoug it is alot of money)

They was talking about £25m for Alves last summer. Richards is English, younger and can play anywhere across the back 4.
