I don't usually buy into the whole soundtrack idea... but after hearing a snippet of what I believe is part of "The War of the Worlds" one, I'm thinking of buying it. Now, I like classical music, I've got Beethoven's 9 Symphonies, some Mozart, Bach and Tchaikovsky [the famous ones as you can see, I'm not a connoisseur] so I was wondering, as it's a famous piece of music - is it worth a purchase? I'm not even sure if it is all classical music, but if anyone hear has heard it/has it, what do you think? Probably a long shot I know, but the reviews on the Internet are the most useless I've ever read.

Also, to make this a more general topic, what other soundtracks you do like or own? Although I said previously I don't buy them... I do have Graese and Chicago, love them both B)

The soundtrack of the War of the Worlds is fantastic - if it's the one with Richard Burton -

The Chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one, they say ... etc

I expect in the fullness of time, Loz will give you a full answer!

Another film soundtrack well worth buying if you like classical-type music is the Double Life of Veronique.

Of course it'll be remastered compared to the original, but I'm expecting that.

That'll be the one - it also features Thin Lizzy, David Essex and Justin Hayward from the Moody Blues.

It's listed in Amazon as Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds.

Don't forget to go into Amazon through this site (though i can;t for the life of me remember where the Amazon banner is nowadays!)

That link doesn't work Gem but it is the one with Richard Burton. It is superb. Make sure you get the right version as there is a soundtrack to the TOm Cruise version (cr*p).

you can listen to a preview of all the tracks (only a few seconds of each one) including Richard Burton's voice which I should warn you has been known to make woman pregnant purely by listening to it for too long.

When I was at university I worked in a ten pin bowling place that had one of those Laser Quest things. I used to get in trouble because I would swap the CDs so that when you were in the Laser Quest it was this soundtrack (it isn't actually a soundtrack as it wasn't a film - it is just a musical version of the story) you could hear instead of some sh*te dance music.

Don't get that version as I heard they have buggered it up a bit. You want to get the original version - if you can't get the original version via Amazon then go for the ebay option

laser quest is one of the most disappointing things in the history of forever.

pulp fiction, reservoir dogs, buena vista social club, goodfellas, the graduate, kill bill, quadrophenia, the godfather, the south park film (obviously), that coen brothers film with clooney... not the one with zeta jones, the other one, star wars, blade runner, oh yeah trainspotting also, wicker man, taxi driver, juno... also look for the life aquatic, I think there are two soundtracks, I'm talking about the one with sue jorge doing acoustic bowie covers in portuguese.

those would be good to start with.

I've quite enjoyed the music Boran Bregovic has done for Emir Kusturica's movies. The sountrack for Underground is the only one I own, but I've been thinking of getting Time of the Gypsies and Arizona Dream as well.

Wes Anderson has pretty good soundtracks to his movies, but as they consist mainly of older pop and rock(Kinks, Who, The Stones etc.), I think I'd rather own the original albums than the soundtrack. I think he's probably better at utilising old pop and rock songs in his movies than Tarantino and I think Quentin's pretty good at that.

Super Fly is a good example of a movie soundtrack that is much better than the movie. I've got a feeling The Harder They Come might be like that as well, but I've yet to see the movie. Good soundtrack, though.

I'd suggest getting The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions featuring Seu Jorge instead of the soundtrack. I don't think Mark Mothersbaugh's music works all that well on its own. It fits the movie well, but I'm not sure if I'd want to listen to it without the visuals.

 
A Bronx Tale is also a very good soundtrack

 
Oh...forgot to mention the Ennio Morricone's music for Sergio Leone's westerns. Once Upon a Time in the West is brilliant.

I reckon the original Psycho wouldn't be half the movie it is without the aweome use of music and sounds. Bernard Herrmann's music is more than just the icing on the cake, but I still wouldn't want to listen to the soundtrack without the visuals, though.

High Fidelity's got a pretty good soundtrack, but given the subject matter, it shouldn't be a big surprise. Donnie Darko's got some good songs on the soundtrack as well.

It wouldn't quite make my all time favourites list, but it's definitely an underrated movie. I like the soundtrack as well...I like the new version of "Blister in the Sun".

in my opinion jeff waynes war of the worlds is best listened to with headphones on, you can feel the different sound affects bouncing through your head its brilliant
