Panathinaikos vs Chelsea (UECL) Thurs 24th October 24 17:45 GMT

Someone mentioned earlier forgetting the game against Astana to avoid traveling there.

I would not go that far, but I would leave out all of the PL starters and subs. Have them all fresh for the next game with no travel.

The Welsh side are beating Astana 2-0. So yeah...some B team, C team and youth to make that trip.

First 8 automatically go through in this conference league stage right....so

Where are we in this league then? Anyone know? or do we have to wait till every team has played before we see the league table?

Top by goal difference.

It would be a shock if we don’t win the Conference League.

I wonder how many of the players not included in the Conference squad will come back in for the knockouts?

Id like to see the current squad see it through but winning the first trophy for a team is the hardest so I’d imagine the big hitters bar Lavia, James and Fofana will be drafted in.

Need to manage James, Lavia and Fofana after their long term injuries. I think is best we leave them out.

Perhaps Palmer returns. Strongest opponent appears to be Fiorentina.

I don't think we can remove any unless they are injured.

I read that after the grp stages, upto 3 (or could have been 5, cant remember) players can be added to the squad (List A) via "list B".

*oh that's why they have a List A and List B; A is "locked" in, in a way.

I'll try and find that article again but I think it's only an "add" situation and they can't remove any from list A. There was also a clause on injuries, that a player can be replaced but I can't recall if that's only for league stage or knockout or both.

Cheers bud. I'm surprised it's not posted everywhere or in obvious places under the European Conference League tab on the beeb or anywhere on the main news outlets. It's probably there somewhere but it's not in yer face like everything else. Same with the europa League one too. Maybe I'm just blind. Lol

Yup.

You are blind. To be fair the league table was being updated live on the tab that had the lineups and match stats etc. You have to choose any game in the conference then use the game tab as opposed to the main tab across the top.

Top man, I mainly use my phone but I think it's the same and I know which ones you are on about.

Funny I have only checked out those tabs during pl games and not bothered with Europe (head to head, stats, etc) didn't think they'd have an relevant info as we dont play those teams regularly. 🤦‍♂️

Cheers again bud, I'll check it out.

Tricky game after that poor c**t Baldock pulled a Barrymore. Good gesture from Chels but then a very strong and professional performance to stick one up Panathinaikos and put 4 into the onion bag. Myck Mud the star tonight - take a f**king bow son.

Is it just random who you play in these new formatted european leagues?

I think the slightly positive, albeit begrudging, press narrative recently about Maresca making his enormous, multi million pound squad work with A (League) and B (Conf) teams all competing is good and makes a change from the usual bollox reported about us.

But we are not really buying this are we, that everybody is hunky dory about the set up. If you are an elite player but find yourself in the Conference League squad where is the opportunity to really shine and stake a claim to progress, if you are playing in games at a walking pace, where we are so comfortable, especially if you are then subbed for an academy lad at some point just to give them a run out on the big stage.

So let's take Nkunku for example, and i know its a hobby horse of mine atm. Now Jackson may be converting goals now and again and getting some assists, and he may fit the way that Maresca is currently playing. But surely even the most rose tinted among us would agree that he is not an elite player. i don't overly dislike him (unlike some amongst us!) but elite? Come on.

Nkunku is an elite player and has an excellent record to back it up. He might not fit Maresca's current style or Maresca may favour other players at the moment, but let's not make any bones about it, if Nkunku is working off of Havertz's shoulder at Arsenal they probably win the league. If Nkunku is working the half spaces at City, instead of the grotesquely calved Grealish, he comes close to a CL winners medal. This is an elite footballer.

Putting Nkunku out to play against Noah whilst everybody strokes the ball around at walking pace (last night Badiashile literally stopped and stood on the ball with his hands on his hips waiting to be pressed) and then subbing him on the hour for someone like Casadei, Dewsbury Hall, or even George, is it any wonder that some of these players might get disinterested or even disgruntled. Only to then be sat in the stands watching Jackson tread on the ball, fall over, run it off the pitch, pass to nobody, pick a fight (possibly with a teammate) and then occasionally have enough of touch of quality to score.
