But that is because we grossly over paid for Drinkwater and Morata. Even in today's market, Drinkwater is a £15m player and Morata a £30m player. If we are going to waste all of the Hazard money on a player like Coutinho, then we may as well just keep Hazard for another year and let him leave for free after next season. If all we can do is sign one decent-ish player at best out of it then there is no point. If we spend a penny over £30m for Coutinho, I would be furious, I just don't see what is so great about the guy outside of long range goals. There must be better ways we can spend £100m without spending it on overhyped and inconsistent players like Coutinho.
The prices being mentioned for these players is obscene. It was only in 2012 that we signed Hazard for £30m, if we tried to sign him at the same age today it would cost us £100-150m. I know prices inflate over the years, but never have they gone up this much in such a short amount of time. Look at the difference between 2005-2012, the prices players were going for didn't change, then compare 2012-2019 and you see that prices have almost tripled. I know the Premier League got a whole lot more money ploughed in to it a few years back, but it's not just in England that prices have skyrocketed, it's everywhere. There was even talk of Atletico Madrid paying £71m for Ben Chilwell. That is insane, no way is he anywhere near worth that amount. If Ben Chilwell is worth £71m, then Hazard with only one year left on his contract is worth £300m.
