Reece James

That's fkn horrible if true...poor lad.

So far maresca has been choosing his words wisely or just being vague about Reece.

I hate assumptions, but I also believe in history repeating itself.

If true I really think he needs to move somewhere hot to ease the strain on his hamstrings* or quit and do something else in or out of footy. He should have some money saved up by now, may not live like some other footballers but should be very comfortable if invested wisely.

End of the day his mental health is way more important and I can only imagine what this is doing to him (mentally) if he's out again for a very long time.

* I have no idea if that helps btw, i'm not a medical professional, I'm just going by what ppl have said on here. Maybe it's a known fact I'm unaware of, no idea.

Is it on the one operated on, or not?

I really do think his body is just not cut out to be able to play consistent top flight football anymore.
Its an absolute joke - a very unfunny one.

Yes there is the human side, we all get that. It must be painful to the lad....

...But on what planet are we if we think we can genuinely have any long term planning with Reece in our team. He is just too unreliable and cannot be depended on - and because of this, he needs to go - or more accurate, we need to move on without him.

Top flight football is littered with stories of players let down by their bodies in one way or another, and he is another one. Sorry if that sounds harsh (it is!) - but it is brutal at the top. He should be done here. 4 months off followed by 3 games and a few training sessions on is not sustainable.

Well we have till 2028, I think that is how long he has left on his contract.

If by some miracle he can play regularly again obviously we keep him. If he continues like this then we offer him vastly reduced terms to stay. Possibly a pay as you play with a small base wage.

Then is up to him.

We're looking for a miracle at this point, but I think the time has come for James to make a serious decision. He needs to make the decision to either retire, or go play in a country where it's less intense. I think any hope of him having a career here now is over.

Yeah, beeb had an article on him rgdn his injury. It's a different hamstring and Chels are trying to kill the noise around it especially after the Times article, which gave him a potential return in January.

Just makes me think it's going to be a lot longer than January before he's back properly.

Just so people know, there is no scientific evidence for the cause of repeated hamstring injuries in footballers. We actually do not know why or how they are more prevalent in some people, largely because there is still very little research pertinent to elite-level footballers. Most research in this field pertains to other sports (AFL and NFL especially) or college/amateur athletes. But, we can confidently say that "better weather" is not one of the factors.

There are medical speculations (eg muscle size, body shape etc.) but there is no scientific evidence to back them up.

UEFA's landmark study into hamstring injury was published last year. One major finding was that more players are getting hamstring injuries. Almost 1 in 5 hamstring injuries in this period were recurrences of the same injury, and over 60% were caused while intensely running/sprinting. If club football is getting more intense (tactically), and more frequent, it could explain the rise in hamstring injury.

So it is possible that Reece James just isn't cut out for modern football, but there's also a raw 1/5 chance that the player we buy to replace him has similar issues.

He can't return in January anyway, it will be too cold and obviously more at risk of injury. (ShedEnd medical team)

Completely disagree, think it's the perfect time for Reece to come back:

"The zodiac sign for January 2025 is Aquarius, which runs from January 20 to February 18. Aquarius is an airy, masculine, fixed sign, and its planetary ruler is Uranus."
