Renato Veiga

Not to sound like Bob, but who will feed Sancho? 😂

In all seriousness, not sure Veiga is good enough on the ball yet to be this LB to CAM hybrid we need in this system that has 2 deep CMs.

No wonder Maresca likes Cucurella.
Veiga is better on the ball than Gusto is on his unnatural side. Pretty useless with his left foot.

Think he should have started at LB instead of Gusto. I can understand why Enzo might have been hesitant for him to play a full 90 against Salah but this kids good enough.
I doubt Enzo was hesitant about giving him 90. Gusto went LB because he wanted to start James at RB, rightly or wrongly.

Personally I think James should have been a 2nd half sub and might have fared better than against fresh players.

That decision brought a lot of imbalance to the defence as defending we were off it and offensively too, the support from the LB and RB wasn't too good.

James did play a few good balls forward though, but he wasn't too fit for making runs and being as physical as we know.

LB to CAM hybrid 🤣

I know what you mean but it still made me chuckle. What’s next, CB to RW hybrid?

I think this issue was also down to Liverpool changing tactics.

I like this kid and I actually think he can invert well too, but the difference between him and gusto and the reason I believe maresca played gusto over him is speed (i also think he may have better close ball control too but irrelevant for this bit). He's not as fast as gusto.

TAA played more in his own half than he ever did. He didn't leave the space behind for gusto and sancho. Slot set them up to defend with a low block whenever we got the ball into their half.

Unfortunately slot won this battle.

But personally I'm happy with this "kid" so far (I swear he looks more like a 70's porn star, lol).

I mean from what I’ve seen of him so far, albeit he’s only 21, he’s a bit pony? If we can turn a quick profit then why not.

Depends on two things for me.

1. Is our plan with Maresca a long term plan? If so he does not really rate Veiga it seems.

2. Was he signed as one of the players the SD and scouts believe fit in to the model to buy cheap and sell for a quick profit to make money/help with PSR.

If either of those things are true, and we can get say 25mill or more plus a sell on/buy back (sell on If we dont buy him back activated, if we do then it is not). Then why not.

Biggest concern  I have is I don't trust these people to add what we need.

2 and a half years in and the team still does not have a spine capable of competing at the top.

Spine being 5 players, keeper, CB, CM, main attacking creator and striker. They have spent nearly 2billion and have Caicedo and Palmer to show for it. 2 of 5 pieces.

I don’t really think he’s been that bad. For the price we paid and his age he’s well worth keeping around as a squad player. I know he’s a CB normally but he’s looked better at left back when he does play.

If Bournemouth's interest is genuine, then I guess they are selling Kerkez for big money, probably to Liverpool ?

So if you are a fullback that can't invert Maresca wants nothing to do with you. Veiga and Chilly just don't fit his system.

£25m, not a chance! I love how we keep pulling some of these numbers out of thin air, and I won’t be surprised if our SDs are that deluded. Basel paid about £4m for him in 2023, a year later we overpaid and signed him for £12.5m. Unless it’s a Saudi club, no sane club is paying anywhere close to £25m for him 6months later.

Most of these players they want gone like Chilwell, Chukwuemeka & Casadei are being priced out of the market, and will sit on the shelf till the club faces the reality that they overpaid for them, and they are not worth their demands sat in the stands. Players don’t magically increase in value because they are on your books.

It's odd cause when he did play left back he was inverting and doing it well so I'm not sure why he's been frozen out.

He will have a hard time finding them then, because there aren't many around that can play the role.
