Some outstanding individual World Cup performances


In 1974 Netherlands face Sweden in the World Cup. The ball was played out to Johan Cruyff.

In a split second he twisted his body and the Cruyff Turn was born.

 

Maradona in Mexico 1986.

I am by no means a Maradona fan, but what he did in the World Cup of 1986 (mostly) was amazing.

 

Brazil dominated the 1970 World Cup and Pelé was at the heart of it all.

With amazing skill, that make it seem like he was on another level.

 
Surely David Luiz in the 1-7 loss to the Germans has to be up there....

 

Mario Kempes was some striker at his peak,

The last teenager that scored in the World Cup final was Pele, then came Mbappe.

I always associate him with the 1982 World up Finals.

 
Eusebio in 1966. What a player. It was sad to see the courageous North Koreans go out but Eusebio tuned it round for Portugal.  Commentary is in Portuguese.

Here's one, think he would be more widely recognised yet was being played out of position for some time internationally thanks to competition from Torres, from the 3 min you see 5 of his goals.

We were linked with him at one time near the end of his career in La Liga



 
Top player. Was a star with three different clubs. Would have been a good fit in that role that Anelka ended up playing for us. That Spanish team had talent everywhere.
