Stewart & Winstanley

Do you think the above cycle is sensible?
No, I don't like it but is what it is.

They didn't like the job Potter did, they sacked him.

Lamps? They did not keep him on.

Tom Glich? They sacked him to.

Yet Winstanley and Stewart are still here so they must be happy with them no?

I am not convinced that they are doing such a bad job.

I appreciate that will be a controversial opinion, but each player individually makes sense.

caicedo - we overpaid, yet most of us wanted him

Enzo -ditto

Gusto - decent player, good potential, also contributing now

petrovic - looks decent

disasi - not bad depth, and versatile. Only stating due to injuries of James, wes and chal

mudryk - overpaid, but hardly been given a chance by the manager

Madueke - ditto Mudryk

palmer - been a success

Nkunku - looks decent when fit - been unlucky with injuries.

There has of course also been mistakes (Sanchez is a liability, Cucu overpriced, sterling overpriced and too high wages, nico Jackson out of depth, generally too many young £20m plus players etc)

Instead of who they have purchased, I think it is just a case of too many in a short space. This has been a hard reset. I think we needed that, but the pace of change is unprecedented. Plus our injuries are by this stage beyond ridiculous

It’s Mudryk and Madueke I feel we should’ve never bought. Mid table players. No idea what “analytics” they are using to claim they have world class potential.

Jackson should’ve been bought on top of a starting ST.

Sanchez was and still is a bozo.

These two idiots should be facing criminal charges for buying these players. I cannot get over how we can spend £1,000,000,000 on total sh*t. Only Palmer is any good and I’m sure they just lucked out on that one.

Jackson is worse than Madueke and about as bad as Mudryk. Absolute clown of a footballer. Only good in the eyes of the opposition because it gives them a chance to laugh at us.

Let's be real though, almost the entire squad of players we have signed are mid table or worse. Palmer and Nkunku are the only ones they have bought that are better than mid table. Mudryk, Jackson, they are arguably bottom of the table players. Put them in a team like Luton and they wouldn't even start. Can even be argued that experienced players like Sterling are barely Premier League standard anymore. The only teams he can perform against are Championship teams or teams in the Premier League 15th and lower.

That one was down to Joe Shields LOL

I think Lavia will be good if we can get him fit, and he'll be down to Shields as well :-)

Like I said, on top of a starting striker. Jackson by himself is asking way too much of him but he’s still doing as good as I expected.

I remember when Mikel said he looks at the team and none of them would get in the Teams he played.

Guess he knew what he was on about.

These two need to come forward and explain what is going on, and take some responsibility/accountability.

They appear to be bringing in medium quality players at very high prices. Taking us close to our FFP ceiling causing us to have to sell players before we can buy even more medium quality players at high prices and on long contracts too. Some might wonder who we might sell these misfiring players to, without losing money.

You would think Boehly or Eghbali might question this utter madness.
Anyway with the lack of activity in the January window things have changed.

We are now not continuing with the buying of multiple players at high prices, almost certainly due to FFP, and appear to have moved into sell to buy mode.

Which begs the question

If we are not bringing in lots of players but are selling perhaps more to buy a few new players.

Do Boehly & Eghbali actually need these two individuals?

The identification is probably done, the data is gathered, they could be redundant.

Dont even need to source a new manager as they probably dont have the FFP funding to achieve that.

Once theyve recruited Emmas replacement

( And god help us if any of these four geniuses are within a mile of that transaction)

They can go, cherrio, off you trot.

Hopefully reports that they are under review are true and will lead to them being sacked.

Never going to get any explanations out of them, they only report to the owners, not us. I could see them get the sack at the end of the season, if we could afford it😅

A significant stage will be when these two are removed, only then will we see a change in strategy.

Players and managers come and go and are of minor consequence at present.

When Boehly & Eghbali change these two it will be to pass the blame to them, and hopefully modify the strategy.

That time cannot come too soon.

We can't forget the work they did over the summer though. I think their responsibilities need shifting to outgoings only.

Problem is mate what work did they do in the summer? We are left to wonder why such a big overhaul was really needed when after last season stability was surely the most important thing.

Pulisic, RLC, Mount, Kovacic, Kanté, Azpilicueta, Ziyech, Lukaku, Aubameyang, Havertz, Koulibaly, Mendy, Hall, CHO to name the main outgoings. How can all of these players want to leave at the same time we're talking up to 12 starting players for any top 6-top 8 side in the league. Every single one of those improves our current squad and arguably all improve our current starting 11.

£1bn spent and worst off, this is beyond negligent, I can't see how they're still in the job. Replacing Mendy (a former uefa best gk with Robert Sanchez Brighton's 3rd choice), and then allowing Kepa to leave just before the season starts. What could the logic be here?

Selling Jorginho for £10m and replacing him with Enzo for £105m (Enzo is a good player and has high potential but is he even a £50m player if we're being honest we severely overpaid). Losing Kanté for free effectively and replacing him with £115m Caicedo who again has high potential but again is he even a £50m player. I talk a real £50m I'm talking pound for pound money's worth taking inflation into consideration. Both Jorginho and Kanté have looked good this season meanwhile we've missed their experience in midfield. Every season they played together along with Kova we were a top 4 side and made cup finals.

Mudyrk and Madueke effectively Pulisic and Ziyech replacements again high potential but for a combined fee of over £100m this is insanity a waste of money and poor squad building.

The list goes on and on as we go through the sales and the purchases. You do not spend £1bn and make a team worse it's beyond comprehension, if they wanted to go the youth player route to make money then they adapt our old model buy low sell high, how do you make money when you buy over market price by over double and your sporting performance declines. Where is the market to sell? You only lose money because the players want to leave you then sell for less then you paid for and find it harder to recruit better players due to poor sporting standing and performance.

I point to this because its my area of expertise I did my Masters dissertation on the effective running of elite football clubs. More specifically it was a case study on the "big 6" and why there is a difference in sporting performance despite similar financial outlays amongst the 6 and I can say without a shadow of a doubt this is the worst run club in the world currently at least as far as so called elite clubs are concerned. I genuinely believe on the current trajectory we will no longer be recognised as a big team and could face years in the wilderness before the situation improves.

I finish this with a simple thought. What exactly are Paul and Lawrence's instructions, what do the board tell them to do. Because it could be that none of this is their fault and they are merely following their orders to the letter. Or perhaps they have been given complete control and have destroyed this club from the inside with ineptitude.

A look back on their smug interview last summer...

https://chelseasupportersgroup.net/2023/09/paul-winstanley-and-laurence-stewart-interview-we-had-to-make-changes-to-put-the-club-in-a-better-position/

Arguably the biggest decision Winstanley and Stewart faced ahead of the 2023/24 campaign was who would lead the men’s team. That they settled on Pochettino – and the Argentine’s close-knit staff – came after much discussion and careful consideration.

Winstanley says: ‘Laurence and I sat long and hard with the ownership and discussed the type of person and the attributes, a head coach would need to have success at this club. It was a lengthy process and we interviewed several different candidates and different types of people’

Stewart continues: ‘It had to be the right fit in terms of the person, the leadership we needed, the ability and track record of developing players, and of building a team that can compete and perform in the Premier League. These are all things we were looking for.’

Pochettino was confirmed as Chelsea head coach at the end of May. However, it wasn’t until the start of July that he officially began his role. In the three months since, the Argentine and his staff have made a strong impression.

‘It was a huge appointment for the club and everyone here at Cobham,’ says Winstanley. ‘We felt Mauricio was the right fit and we are even more impressed having spent these early months with him. The way he has gone about it day-to-day, he’s had an impact with the players, staff, Laurence and I, and the ownership.’

Throughout the summer transfer window, which closed on September 1, communication between Stewart, Winstanley and Pochettino was constant. Countless conversations took place at Cobham and during our pre-season tour of the United States. The work undertaken on the squad was collaborative.

It has resulted in a new-look men’s squad, the average age of which is a little over 22 years old. It is a group built to compete under Pochettino in the Premier League this season, but also in the years ahead.

‘The ownership has supported us bringing in the players we have,’ says Stewart. ‘The talent we have in the group is really exciting and the dynamic day-to-day is really pleasing. That was one of our objectives, something we wanted to develop after last season.

‘The combination of the players we’ve brought in and the coaching staff is one we’re really happy with.

As a matter of interest does anybody know what Christopher Vivell is doing now?
