The headhunters?

It seems like a lot of the negativity surrounding the Headhunters originates from MacIntyre's documentary, which is rather sad as MacIntyre comes off as a massive twat and I wouldn't put it past him to embellish for ratings. The only element of it that bothered me (if true) are the alleged links with C18 and the National Front. Hooligans strike me as rather silly people, but organizations of that ilk are another matter entirely.

Of course but the game also played a big part in the travelling.
;) Of course, I agree. Though my insinuation is probably true in some ways. Have drank and hung out with a few past "iconic" names at Chelsea that used to be into that stuff, and did my best to soak up as many stories as possible, but I can't pretend to know what it was like. Just love listening and learning. And drinking.

Sounded like a fun day out most of the time, until someone got cut up of course. That's where I would have probably said "laters."

Sorry lads...not much muscle here. And not too skillful with hatchets, hammers, carving knives, or spanners.

But I'll still sing those old songs as I am very talented musically.

The real Chelsea headhunters were the lot that got nicked in the 80s. The lot you see in the Macintyre doc are not the headhunters some were back in the day but once the 90s came it was a different younger lot. The headhunters is a media name so why its even an issue is beyond me. The real headhunters followed chelsea and england all over so to say they werent real football fans is not true. Most of the original headhunters aint stepped foot inside the bridge for years. If you really want to know how it works google PC DONAL MACINTYRE UNCOVERED where it proves the programme was non stop lies thats what you can do when you have 300k of tax payers money to spend and can put 50 minutes of 200 hours of footage together to make a story.

They might be some Chelsea fans version of hero's but not me. They were racist or behaved in a racist manner (just in case their supporters get too sensitive) and yes I saw them in action.regardless of the embellishments of McIntyre. What next they were just misunderstood

?

Regardless of how significant they may or may not have been in the 80's and 90's, I'm glad that hooliganism is largely on the decline.

Nevertheless it still gets on my nerves a bit when you hear people singing National Front/BNP songs at the away games. Sorry if this offends any one but I think its pretty low when people try to celebrate their own cultural and political ignorance at a football game. If people want to hold those stupid, backward views then so be it, but trying to make supporting a football club into some sort of pseudo-political expression is simply wrong.

It's not something I've ever been involved with, but oddly it fascinates me, but then again, pretty much everything surrounding this club does - Especially

the 80's era.

I had a few DVD's I purchased years ago from Ebay, was full of documentaries going back to the 80's and 90's, all about

hooliganism, quite a fair bit of Chelsea was mentioned in it, if I can dig the discs out, I'll get them uploaded.

I cant deny I wish I was from the era of the 70 and 80's. Its just too difficult for groups of 19 - 20 year olds to be able to go to football together now because of the cost and availability of tickets. I would do pretty much anything to get a experience on the shed with my mates standing on a terrace. The hooliganism aspect is wrong but I cant ignore the fact it fascinates me.

Agreed, Mike. My friend at uni did his dissertation on football violence and I was practically begging him to come on here and tap into the mine of knowledge and experience of the 70s/80s which we have in many of our members.

Having come through from the late 60s, and seen and experienced a hell of a lot of stuff i look at it 2 ways...It WAS great fun at the time..A great adrenaline surge..A great era of comradiery...Meeting wonderfull wild people of both sexes from all parts...Now at my age , i look back at all that stuff still with enthusiasm and excitment as something that will NEVER be simulated again..It isnt and will never be the same as those days but to have been a part of my younghood, well, ill just say it was an honour..I would love to turn the clock back to have that wonderous chelsea support that many on these sites have never experienced but alas it will never be..(and ) apart from the efforts i put in v spurs n west ham its a case of The king is dead...long live the king

It's quite depressing to see so many people on here sticking up for this lot - sure they're racist thugs who travelled the country looking for a fight, but as long as they support Chelsea it's fine, yeah?

Its a hard one to explain mate. Maybe you class me as one of those who are 'sticking up' for these thugs as I would of loved to be apart the 70's and 80's history. But I think your looking at a select few in truth who are racially motivated. Im sure alot of people would be like me, having a scuff with my mates protecting the shed and watching the football would be their main aim of the day. In my view at the time its all part of the game. There were other places to watch the game from ie section in the ground where you would of had much safer viewing. Someone correct me if I am wrong as this is sadly through documentaries and readings of other peoples experiences at the time. If you didn't want to be involved its quite possible not to be.

I dont think that people here are defending any racists from looking at posts. Me personally, wouldn't have been interested in racist attacks, and by the sheer amount of people that you see in video's back in the day involved in things in the terraces I highly doubt that their racially motivated. It much more about the buzz, respect, and club imo. Im sure that there's a select few in the firms who are, or there are groups of supporters that are. However, its possible the media have also used this to create a feeling within the public that gain more attention if its all racists etc.

Maybe Im on completely the wrong track here mate and misinterpreted your post but hooliganism on the terrices during the 70's and 80's was more about the coming together as a club and being part of something.

Im not really talking about modern day hooliganism.

My girlfriend keeps telling me to write about football for my dissertation. How did your friend get on with it?

I dont agree when Police and innocent people get injured or property gets destroyed.

In the 70's there was little, if any, racism amongst Chelsea fans - a fair few of the Chelsea hooligans of the day were black lads. All that racism sh*t began in the early 80's, and by 1986 I'd had enough and packed it in.

If you'd seen the way the police behaved back in the old days, you wouldn't feel any sympathy for them getting hurt. They'd arrest fans for nothing, then beat them up in the cells. They used their horses to trample fans (not just hooligans, either), an extremely dangerous thing to do, but they got away with it because football fans were regarded as the lowest of the low. Again, not just hooligans, but all football fans.

I've a lot of time for the police in general these days, they've got a thankless task - but back in the day the coppers who were on duty at football matches were total c*nts.

They were a big part of our club and were genuine supporters, before the game got sanitised and corporate investment came in, and was mainly working class men/lads who society didnt care much about. Every club was at it. I remember the whole of Fulham Broadway resembling a warzone in the eighties when I was a small kid. It was just normal.

Thanks for the insight mate, like I said I was only commenting from what I knew from from places like this and documentaries and a few stories here and there.
