Hey guys,

Now I was going over some of our previous seasons results simply cause I was bored and I though the last time we had won a league match over Arsenal before 2005 was the 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge in May 95 when Furlong and Stein scored but according to this http://www.mychelseafc.com/previous_results/95results.htm the last time we beat them was on 30th Sept 2005 and Mark Hughes scored the winner. I can't say I remember this match saying that at the time I was only just about getting into watching football.

Does anyone remember this?

Time was when any kind of victory over Arsenal was a rarity. I remember there was a special atmosphere walking down Fulham Road after beating them sometime in the mid-80's... which I think was the first time for a decade or more.

It's a typo!!

Hughes wasnt even with us in 2005 hell he wasnt even playing football!

It was 95 in the season him and ruud joined us, I believe we actually came for 2-1 down in that game to win it the dying moments

Sorry I think I'm think of the wrong game, think we did them twice that season

I do remember that match. Hughes did indeed get the goal in the 1-0 win but the game was more memorable for Nigel Spackman getting sent off for punching Martin "monkey face" Keown.

Top man Spackers!!

At last someone remembers it :D

What was the goal like?

and we won with 10 men aswell, result

Well having done a little research, the one I mentioned earlier was Chelsea v Arsenal 1985/86, played on Saturday, September 21, 1985, and we won 2-1. This was the first time we'd beaten Arsenal since Boxing Day 1974 - "and we will fight forever more, because of Boxing Day" - yes I was there as well!, when we won 2-1 at Highbury.

Wow your so lucky, did you go to the 2-0 at Highbury in 2005 aswell when Robben and Coley got the goals?

i hope that hutch was not in the clock end that day in 74 as chelsea got mullered, with the chant of sh....ers ringing out from the north bank

They weren't singing it a couple of years later.

no, we were singing it. Those two games in 76 and boxing day in 77 was probably the best that we have ever had away in london, especially in 77

Unfortunately I'd been ... forced into retirement by that time.

I wasn't in the Clock End in '74. Memory plays tricks, but I don't remember any real trouble at the game.

what chelsea there were and they were not many, got scattered in the clock end after our first goal.

Several decades later, and after large amounts of alcohol, your memory is obviously a lot better than mine... thinking hard now but still don't remember it too well. I know I was there though, not with the Chelsea mob, but with a couple of my Arsenal supporting mates. I went away with them a couple of times (with Arsenal) when we weren't playing, but that's another story.

Hallelujah to that, Hutch - I saw Chelsea play Arsenal loads of times, but my memories of them all seem to be jumbled up together, alcohol is a terrible thing :D

I just had a look at the details of the 74/75 Boxing Day game at Highbury, where we won 2-1 with both goals by Chris Garland - I know I must have been there, I wouldn't have missed it for anything, but I don't remember a thing about the game. I know that a couple of times we didn't take much of a mob to Arsenal, this must have been one of them. Not sure where I was in the ground, I'd definitely remember getting 'run' by a bunch of north London no-marks so possibly I wasn't in the Clock End - gawd knows!

Nice clip, Scott, I enjoyed that!

I'm enjoying this thread, so I thought I'd upload a special vid on YouTube...

And so, especially for all fans of gentlemanly football, I give you...Nigel Spackman whacking Martin Keown

It's strange what actually sticks in the memory. For instance, I can distinctly remember a coachload of us stopping in Coventry on the way back from some away match up North. I can even remember snatches of conversation, and events of the night. What I couldn't tell you is where we were coming back from!

it was no real disgrace at highbury as not many teams took it to the arsenal in those days apart from west ham. Strange because they were humiliated at the bridge the same year, ask bluebeard about the yellow paint
