Welcome to Chelsea Ben Chilwell

Interesting that the merry go round has moved on and Leicester are interested in Tagliafico if Chilwell moves to us.

Would be a bit frustrating for them to rinse us for tens of millions and then go out and buy a better player for a quarter the price.
hence why we should just go straight for Tagliafico and let City or Utd sign the LB version of John Stones for an extortionate price

At least he's got a good cross on him. Feels like forever since we've had someone who's a good crosser at leftback.

I think he's much better than what we have but the price needs to be right. Paying upwards of 60 million would be insanity.

Perfect, sell Emerson for 20 and buy Taglia for 40.

Great comparison
Thanks. All the people clamoring for Chilwell now will just realise hes another overhyped english defender like Stones. Bet everybody's glad we didn't sign him now eh?

Quite weird though, I thought Chilwell was good, but that City game he just got ripped apart by Mahrez, and its like the whole City team were just targeting that left side as he was a weak link.

So is this the consensus in here now then, Chillwell is terrible and any signing the other teams make will be amazing and soooo much better than him. Leicester being linked with Bertrand today, maybe we should just go get him instead.

Nobody said he was terrible, but for 80m you could argue he is.

If Chilwell was 30m, I dont think anybody would be complaining about signing him.

Oh grow up. Nobody is saying that. Just that for £80m that player better be utterly transformative to your team and there is no way that Chillwell could justify that price tag.

Do you honestly think we should spend all the up front money from the Hazard transfer on a decent left back? Because that's the comparison you're making. Chillwell is not worth the same as Hazard. There I said it. I can't believe I had to but FML we can be sensible.

I don't want us to be like City, buying Stones, Mangala, Otemendi and hoping each time that this one will be worth the price.

Why does the price matter, if hes the right player and the manager wants him then we go sign him for his value. Hes English and his price will be high, thats just got to be accepted. Some people are claiming hes bang average and players x, y and z are better. But as I said before they arent the ones our manager wants, or belieevs are obtainable. How

Get stuffed telling me to grow up. As I said above, why do you care about the cost, if hes the right payer that the manager wants then we sign him for his market value. Its amazes me that for years on here we have had people whinging that we havent backed the manager, yet seemingly this is exactly what we are doing and people still whinge.

Well address the whingers not me.

Why do I care? Because we have other areas in the team to address because I'd rather see us develop talent than always buy it and because I have a feeling that football suffers when clubs like ours and City simply take all there is to have. Outside of Chelsea winning the league the best season in recent times was Leicester winning it? Why because it was exciting, nobody expected it and it was done with Wes Morgan at centre back. Football is about emotional connection and simply opening our wallet for overvalued player is a weakness.

Hazard was a wonderful player and picking him up at the right price made it even better. Vastly overpaying for Torres or Veron was not.

So now after you quoted me you are complaining that I`m addressing you?

Its pretty obvious that we are also addressing other areas of the team also, you understand we can sign Chillwell and do that also? We have a great mix at the moment of young players and bought players, but left back is where we are lacking in both. There is no one from the youth ready to step up, and Alonso and emmerson have both been found lacking. Left back is absolutely a position we need to sort out.

I`m not sure of why you brought Leicester into this, that was a freak season, and as great as it was to see it happen it just wont happen again for a long, long time. So if you want us to compete for trophies, which I presume you do, then we are going to have to buy players as well as bring through our own. I think at the moment we have it just right, but I would be disappointed it we suddenly flood the squad with purchases again. Are we going to make a list of good and bad purchases now?

With FFP we need to make smart business. You are telling me you can't see the difference in buying a LB for 30m instead of 80m. There could well be 50m money to invest in a defender, midfielder or an attacker which has a direct impact for the coming season.

If Chilwell is Frank's main target and he is certain he takes us closer to Liverpool it is Frank's responsibility and I fully back him.

I think fans show well informed criticism towards this buy. City and Liverpool made him look like an 8 pound defender. Granted I haven't seen him too much to make but watching those two games alone made me want to avoid him.

FFP impact is not that big for these big signings though due to amortisation, we arent paying that £80m outright. Also lets get this right, that figure is being thrown around as fact when it isnt, its the media making up a number and adding whatever to get an amount that will get internet clicks.

The FFP period is 3 years. We need to be compliant through that period.

For me the money is not really the issue if it can be worked around. Is Chilwell an 80m defender that can significantly improve us. If he ends up being Ashley Cole 80m is a bargain. Has he shown signs of being the next Ash? Probably not.

because we have limited funds, and that money could be spent in better places?

You're talking as if money has no relevance. By that logic why not just throw 300m at Mbappe and sign him?
