Wrong about Sarri?

Terrible post, coming 3rd without a competent striker and only one midfielder who can score is actually impressive. Jorginho and Kovacic are both class players. I accept Jorginho didn't adapt immediately, though his struggles were exacerbated buy a lack of technical players, thanks to Jose and Conte. Kovacic is a supremely talented player, people criticize him for not scoring goals, but that is not his job. People focus on his lack of goal scoring because our strikers and AM's don't score goals, it is unfair to attack Kovacic for the faults of others.

The two mangers who ended up above Sarri have had multiple years to build their teams. Were Pep and Klopp much more impressive in their first seasons?
The only player in our midfield whose job is not to score goals is Jorginho simply because he plays too deep in the midfield and in front of our defenders. I never criticize Kovacic for not scoring goals, but when you are playing for top 4 team as an attacking midfielder, central midfielder or box to box, and the attackers aren't firing in the goals, you have to try and score some goals yourself. And thats what Kante who I always thought was bad in front of goal has done for us this season. So that's a bad excuse for Kovacic. Anyway I don't really rate him that much but I believe he is talented and possibly Sarri isn't playing him in a position where we can get the best out of him.

I just think kovacic isn't composed enough with final ball / shot. I have no problems with signing him, we need midfielders next year and cannot rely on Barkley / mount to be our only midfielders as that third option. Would be interesting to see us look at pasalic in the summer.

Can only beat who's in front of you though. Don't think our run can be a beating stick for Sarri like some of our fans do.
Regardless of our run, when the crunch Europa League games happened we didn't lose our Sundays whereas arsenal did. It's why we are in third and they 5th

You missed the point of my entire post. I'm saying the results don't really matter for me. It was a miracle they finished in the top 4 after failing to win the majority of their league games in the last 2 months of the season. The only reason Sarri hasn't already been sacked is because Spurs, Arsenal, and United have somehow been worse down the stretch.

There are other factors at play here which I have already clearly stated. Sometimes you have to look at results with a big asterisk.

There are only two trophies that truly matter. The premier League trophy and the champions League trophy. I see some here bringing up the EFL Cup and the Europa League as a measuring stick for his success. Most of the top English teams don't take the league and FA Cup seriously until the later stages if they're still in it, and we have had the easiest possible road to the Europa League finals. Only a little bit of adversity in the semis.

It baffles me how 90% of this fanbase wanted him out after the 6-0 defeat to city, yet somehow opinions have changed on him. What happened to change these opinions? It's not like they started playing that much better. The team's around them were that bad which allowed them entry into the top 4.

I can answer that.

The two main reason's i started developing serious doubts over Sarri in that period was his squad management and our tendency to completely collapse after falling behind especially away from home.

Both aspects have been improved on since, he rotated quite well In the run in and the total collapses we saw in January/February haven't been the case of late. We came from behind to get past Frankfurt, we came from behind against Burnley, Wolves and Cardiff, we even made a fight of it at Anfield after going two down and had a 15 minute spell where we battered Liverpool but Hazard couldn't finish his dinner (a few months back we would have surrendered meekly after Mane and Salah's quick fire goals and lost by 4).

And I think we have got better going forward since that period, far from perfect but the ball does get moved a lot faster now and our lack of bite is more down to dire finishing compared to the winter period where it was more down to the fact we were barely creating anything.

I'm not 100% sold on Sarri but all things considered he deserves the benefit of the doubt in my view.

You think to have a fantastic team with many top players. Open your eyes, please ! It's no true. The third place was a miracle. You should thank Sarri night and day, instead of saying nonsense. Throw away a year of hard work would be a masterpiece of idiocy.

Sarri was okay this season. His early work did impress and this is why the latter part of season felt a bit meh. We really lost the step in terms of scoring and fluidity of football. Sarri said he would bring fun back but most of the season it didn't feel like it. He did a massive change to the approach as we now build from the back and try to hold on to the ball. I think he did well as did the team.

With a leathal striker and a new midfielder we could be very good.

Sarriball is absolute bo**ocks, it does not exist.  There is no special brand of football that comes with Sarri.  Complete nonsense.

I think his Napoli team played nice football but it is not as simple as "wait until he signs his players",  because the EPL in general is a more physical and faster league.   The football has been on the most part, rubbish this year, its no denial.   Sarri could do ok here if he starts to alter his changes, switch systems, try something new every now and then.  Until then, forget it.  This sounds stupid but some managers are suited to certain leagues and pace of football.   AVB's worked better in Portugal, Sarri in Italy, Scolari at National level.

That Italian journo who is close to Sarri, Pedulla, thinks he is 70% out the door.  I would not be surprised given the disconnect between Sarri and fans.  On twitter there is a cult following of Sarri which is fair enough, but they never wanted him as manager this time last year.  It was the term "sarriball" which got their knickers wet.  But it doesn't exist.....

When we lose it's the players mentality, lack of concentration etc.   When we win its because the players have learnt 'his' way of playing.  That is one of the reasons why fans are fed up of him slightly.  We were warned of all this by that Napoli expert in his blog

I also hope he wins us the Europa league, it would be nice to see him win something with us

Sarri ball is a media term.

It's just possession based attacking football. Control the game, play direct into final third. Not hugely different to what city do now. It's why we have lots of shots like city and lots of possession, like city.

What we don't have is the players who can make things happen in that final third. Just hazard, who is going.

I genuinely believe that can be fixed next season and the gap to city and Liverpool will be closed. Not all the way, but some of the way.

What will probably happen is we chop Sarri and get a manager in who will play a different style. So another year of the team learning how to play football differently. And probably a year where we come between 4th and 7th.

What I would look for next season with a full pre season and a settled squad before we start, as we play 4 3 3 with attacking fullbacks I want to see low crosses from either side scoring tap ins at the far post. We did it at times but not enough, with a fullback and winger you’re creating 2v1 situations to then put the ball in.

shock to find this thread still in the Chelsea FC section....Anyways did you peeps see this discourse with CR7 & Don Maurizio today?

Anyone who thinks sarri didn’t do well with the team he has implementing a totally different style and achieving the results he did hasn’t got a clue, he is a good manager, would of liked to see what he would have done with another window.

Wonder if the board told him if impending ban when we signed him?

Anyway history now so why dwell let’s hope frank gets backed far better than our last 3 managers
