Man City Charges

Called it….

This is how they get off the charges!!

Absolute disgrace, especially that quote about “I can’t intervene more”

Brown envelope scumbag. Supposedly an Everton fan too, which makes it even more bonkers considering the narrative around his own club, being charged and nearly relegated for far less.

Yeah it's designed to be a salary cap, where clubs can spend whatever they generate from their fan base.

I absolutely do not want a level playing field. A level playing field means all a team needs to do is hope they get a rich owner come in and they might win the league. I think winning the league should be more likely for a club with a proper fan base - which includes Villa and Newcastle.

Villa have every right to win things, and they have the right to be run well enough to not be relegated.

Remember when they were relegated in 2016? They'd gambled a lot of money on getting champions league, ran up debts that wouldn't be allowed now and it backfired. If they weren't so bad at transfers over the past few years they would have a much healthier squad. However in 10 years they've gone from the Championship to the Champions League. So I personally think their fans should be happier now than they were pre PSR.
I don't think you actually know anything about football fans if you actually believe Villa fans are happy that they are now constrained by PSR

Yeah, our ownership has bent every single rule possible and I'm genuinely worried about our future.

I'd argue for tighter rules, not more lenient ones. That graph does not make me think we should deregulate and allow more debt to accrue.

If we had a tough PSR in 2003 and Roman took us over, I would wager that we would still have won the league but probably not until 2010. And importantly we'd have a new stadium today. He would have prioritised revenue higher than instant success.

Because he prioritised short term success on the field and revenue was second fiddle we are now only the 6th biggest club in England (probably soon to be the 5th if City do get f**ked).
Why on earth do you think we would 'probably " have won the league in 2010 even if PSR was in place and Roman couldn't spend his millions on transfers as he did??
I'm sorry, but you are just throwing out comments based on absolutely nothing to sustain your opinions

He built Cobham for us. The stadium plans had had final approval..
We won it all

Let’s hope their punishment is swift and decisive. Which ever way you look it this is not good for the game

Personally I don’t want second hand trophies, pointless however their fine needs to be handed to those clubs who maybe missed out on Europe for an example

Sorry, afair.

What ever you think of Roman maybe his wealth was immoral ? I don’t know. Apart from the agent back handers he ran the club well. I remember his mantra was investment to make us the best then we had to become self financing. Which arguably that was achieved. There was a number of transfer windows were we made a profit
Roman couldn't have done it if PSR was in place back then

Breaking...
City have been ordered to send Fernandez back to Chelsea and we have been instructed to incinerate the dirty money we got from City

No not at all

Firstly, yes that's exactly what PSR is.
The whole point is if you are not a big club, you are not allowed to spend a f**k tonne of money you don't have. It's a feature, not a scam.

PSR is the reason Palace, Brentford, Brighton etc have become premier league stable clubs. Roll those clubs back 20 years and they'd have gambled that they would keep growing and ended up falling apart. It's why if the Saudis leave Newcastle, which feels inevitable at some point, it won't be a death sentence.

Sure if you have an oligarch or an oil state take you over and is allowed to spend loads of money it has a high chance of being great. But only if they don't walk away. Only if they get it right.
Should we return all that scam money we got from City for Enzo F ?
Seems the honourable thing for a squeaky clean club like us .

I know they are unhappy. I find it hilarious. They were days away from administration 8 years ago because their club went massively into debt and couldn't sustain it. It's insane that they have such a short memory.

In 2003 when we were the 3rd/4th best team in the country, and Arsenal were on a slide, where we had Lampard and Terry in the club, a good owner - which Roman was - would have managed to elevate us to the league title through sound investment in the facilities and stadium. The former he did rapidly. The latter he never got round to.

But if he couldn't make us league champions because of PSR. So what. I would rather know Chelsea is going to be a sustainable club than one bad owner away from playing league one football.

Should we return all that scam money we got from City for Enzo F ?

We aren't a squeaky clean club. No club is.

Plus, the reason why Villa are having to sell players is not because of the glass ceiling holding them back. It's the glass floor thats been keeping them above their competitors. This isn’t about an ownership group V Sports splashing untold wealth or being prevented from doing so by draconian regulations.

From what I have read Villa appear to be the working model of exactly why PSR is there in the first place as I understand they were operating on the basis that in excess of 90% of their annual revenue was being spent on inflated players wages. Less than 10% of your revenue to cover the remaining operating costs. How is that sustainable?

But none of the others would have been interested either.

The emergence of Roman at the time that Sky came along and introduced saturation televised football brought massive kudos and profile to the league along with huge injection of cash, not only into our league but to numerous clubs throughout Europe.

This also coincided with the recently reduced highest levels of Super Tax to the system of basic rate and higher rate taxation, making the UK far more attractive to celebrities, pop stars and football paying a top end of 40%-45% on their income.

A perfect triangle supporting the explosion in popularity of the game and Roman Abramovich, whether people like it or not, was one of, if not THE, catalyst for this.

Without Abramovich would we have seen Kronke, Usmanov, Fenway, Glasers, Enic, Mansour, Al Fayed, Ashley, etc following the triers and ultimate failures like Jack Walker, Jack Hayward, and John Hall.

Let's also not forget the amount of ex players, pundits, media outlets, and printed press that have created lucrative livings for themselves out of nothing other than talking bo**ocks about their own opinions. Part of the reason why we have to suffer the likes of useless cretins like Tim Sherwood talking bo**ocks on a Saturday rather than him try to find real work is because of Roman Abramovich and his like being fundamental players in the massive explosion of interest in the game.

You are spot on, Roman would not have been able to flourish in a PSR world, but would the game have been anywhere near as popular as it became without him and would there have been any interest in investing in a PSR environment. The Saudis appetite has waned pretty quickly since the regulations have tightened.

Oh ho ho what is this? Upset goons, Scousers and red mancs about the UK government (PM) getting involved in the Man City case?

Calls they should keep their noses out of it. Oh but you all championed the government using the Russia Ukraine war as an excuse to boot Roman out as it suited you all but now they are not towing your line of thinking it is wrong?

Hypocrites.

This Etihad response could be quite interesting. Currently distancing themselves in a bold and aggressive manner.

City must surely be nervously watching these developments. Imagine if the PL did now engage with Etihad and went through their detailed findings, and as a consequence Etihad either pulled, or suspended, their sponsorship of the club. This would not just be shirt, but ground naming rights, everything. Just imagine the damage that would do City's case and their overall credibility. That could be the final Jenga block being removed from City's position.

For me the reaction for city's charges is overblown. Did they cheat? This is a public secret, their spending power make no sense

I’m still struggling to see why an owner using their own money (albeit through the back door) is considered bad but the likes of Clearlake & the Glasers running up insurmountable debt via continuous borrowing is OK?

Whole world is f**ked. Best we can hope for is a Third World War and we can all go back to getting our priorities straight.

For what it's worth I think FFP/PSR has done more good than bad in saving clubs from bad owners/mismanagement but ultimately it doesn't really matter what your personal opinion of the rules are.

City, along with everyone else in the league, agreed to the rules as a condition of taking part in the first place. You don't get to navigate around the rules simply cause you don't like them.

This is an unhinged comment to make. Truly embarrassing.

I'd like to hear a genuine argument why we should penalise clubs that have big fan bases, sell loads of tickets, shirts etc. have a historical influence on the game, just so that clubs with a 12,000 capacity stadium have a better chance of winning the league?

If they want to spend more money on players. Get more fans to turn up and spend money.

I don't see how its embarassing to think that is a mad thing for a Chelsea fan to want.
