Probably though even the good 1982 side had a poor CF in Serghino.
The "good" 1982 side? Wonderfully understated Charriere.

But what about the miraculous 1970 team who played the entire tournament without a proper goalkeeper? The put a bloke named Felix in a green jersey but he was no more a goal keeper than Massimo Taibi. He couldn't hold a party.

A lot of the younger posters on here who were creaming themselves over this very, very poor Brazil team in the earlier rounds need to watch some of the old footage to see the breath taking fantasy Brazilian football used to provide.

This happened to give the only player who hadn't played this WC some minutes on the pitch. Can't really see how this is classless.

Lol.

Just...lol
Oh come on folks. It was a meaningless game to all intents and purposes. The host nation have been humiliated on their home turf for the 2nd time in less than a week, and the Dutch were 2 or was it 3 nil up at the time after 90 minutes ?

Seriously what was the point of that substitution other than to take the p**s ?

Had it been made earlier in the game I could have understood it. Give the sub keeper a run out and some big match experience but not at that stage of the game when it was all done and dusted. It just seemed disrespectful to me. Still.....LVG is coming to a venue near us next season......lets see how that pans out.

Did anyone really? Looked like a lot of 'this team is riding their luck' posts to me.

I picked Brazil to win in my family pool, and then basically immediately regretted it since the game against Croatia kicked off.  Thought their home-field advantage (and the refs) would give them the advantage.

Wish Chile or Colombia, two teams I really enjoyed, would've knocked them out, and the rest of the tournament might've been for the better.

Surely Brazil had someone better than Fred or Jo. May as well have taken Pato and Ronaldinho, they couldn't have contributed any less than that miserable pair did.

I didn't go as far to say wonderful 1982 as their defence was found out, though they played some wonderful football. Agree with the 1970 side, when you think England were only just beaten by them too .. was it Jeff Astle that shot narrowly wide in the closing minutes?

This years model though has been exposed by the tactical genius that is Scolari, a poor squad picked and sides that have little structure and balance. He must surely fall on his sword now.

Scolari should rightly take much of the blame for his selections and tactics, (he didn't select Lucas Moura for the squad), but Brazil just don't have the free flowing technical geniuses of past eras. I wrote on another thread that Neymar wouldn't have got in the '70 or '82 sides and Neymar was the only gifted fantasy footballer they had in this team.

No Coutinho either who has been far better than Oscar recently.

Also waiting until a meaningless 3rd place playoff to start Willian when he should have been ahead of Hulk from the get go.

I've seen it discussed elsewhere and I think there is some truth in the fact that the Brazilian National team has declined since the advent of their best players being exported to European Leagues.

It's not a recent phenomenom, it's been a gradual process over very many years, but I do think the European style of play has nullified the previously natural Brazilian flair somewhat.

Fred and Jo as your striking options are shockingly awful. That, and really poor tracking back by the defensive midfielders - and oh yeah, Luiz being really poor the last 2 matches - are why Brazil finished fourth.

Very proud of Oscar, Willian & Ramires today - they weren't the issue. I love Luiz - my wife's only jersey is #4 Luiz - but what an incredible (or unbelievably obvious) piece of business we did.

missed the 3rd goal. which was worse from luiz, 2nd or 3rd?
1st. He overplayed, lost the header to Robben of all players and left Silva alone against 2 players. Silva was forced to foul and it should have been a red as well. Luiz was excellent in the confed cup last summer, these last two games he was all over the place.

One must admire Jose. He should be given some trophy for his ability to make deals in the transfer market. I bet, Jose knew about Luiz being exposed in Brazil. I almost feel sorry for PSG here. Luiz & Silva on defense? Lol.

∆ Bluehatter.
Da f**k are you on about? When did I "cream my pants" over this brazil team you old fart? Bit of a difference between wanting a team to do well and being impressed by them

Bluehatter says in his posts on that link that Brazil don't have special players but are winning with heart and passion.

Not quite creaming his pants

He called them the perfect advert for football. Perhaps that's not creaming his pants, but something was stirring.
