Holgate End, Boro's ground. I am a north easterner. West Ham brought a tidy firm into the Holgate End Jan 1970 FA cup 3rd round. The game was not all ticket so in came the West Ham Skins courtsy of the BR football special. The Skinhead look had peaked in London. As Boro where a 2nd division team around this era, segregation had not been a prority. Leicester City, January 1971 brought a big crew and shared the Holgate. Sheffield Utd in their promotion run-in 1971 took the Holgate with a big following. Sunderland a couple of weeks before made it onto the Holgate end.
Boro v Chelsea Sept 1974 at Ayresome Park, the Chelsea fans (Boro's got promotion 1973/74) opted for the side terracing, facing the stand to which the players come out of onto the pitch. I did have a black and white picture from 1969/70 era, a stand-off in the shed end with a big Arsenal mob with the police separating the mobs.
