Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea

The transfer window started really strong, but it's ending a bit on the weak side. The sales are good, but it seems like we are going to have to settle on a small fee for Nkunku and Jackson. Sterling and Chilwell don't seem to be able to find a club at all. We're struggling to get Simons over the line and there is a chance of it collapsing and nobody seems to want Garnacho, a player we could end up signing for £40m. I'm still concerned about CB too.
Chilly and Sterling looking like the new Bogarde. High wages that nobody else willing to pay, but rather than having some professional pride in their career and reducing their salary to play, they look willing to stay and rot.

If both dropped their salary to something like £50-£80k, I am sure clubs would be interested.

£25m for Nkunku is a bargain if he can regain any sort of form. One of the few player we have in the squad who has been genuinely world class at a point during their career (in his case, unfortuantly not at chelsea).

Regardless of book values for creative amortised accounting at £25m, surely we are making a loss on Nkunku that will have to be recovered by more flipping players down the line

Cue Sell George to Roma for €25m. The Nkunku transfer has been a disaster to be honest, we are now moving him for around the same fee as a youth team product.

Come on, we have no idea what's going on!

As I have said before I am far from convinced as to the accuracy of transfer market but using their numbers then his current amortised value both for UEFA and PL purposes was on 1/7 €40 million being super generous there will be around another €1.5 million expended but you are still looking at a book value of way in excess of the €30 m (£25 million ) being suggested.

It’s really quite sad because he had so much potential but for a variety of reasons he simply hasn’t lived up to expectations.

Squad costs are clearly the focus here and I would guess the wage savings in this accounting year will be seen as a mitigating factor . But there is no denial he has been a player and an expensive one at that we got very little value from.

Sterling was likely seen as the stellar signing but like Jesus at Arsenal who was sold by City at the same time, Sterling is simply way below his peak powers.

We don’t know what’s is going on that’s for sure but if Matt Law is correct Sterling and Chillwell are being viewed completely differently by the clubs hierarchy.

Chillwell is seen as the model professional by default you can only assume that that view probably isn’t how Sterling is viewed. To be fair both signed contracts and are doing nothing wrong if they are insisting on having their contracts honoured.

On the flip both you would imagine are more than set financially for the rest of their lives and unless they can’t stand playing any more you would that with two years left on their contracts they would grasp the opportunity that a new club albeit on reduced wages would offer.

It is not unusual for once top players to suffer significant mental issues once their playing days are ended. I simply can’t imagine the problems on their well being that are being caused by being excluded when both still have several productive playing years left.

I don’t know if I posted it before but I wonder if there is wiggle room in the squad ratio numbers for Chilwell to be re integrated simply because Hato may afford the left sided CD cover following Colwills injury meaning we still need a left sided full back albeit not a player that is seen as natural cover. Probably not !

This is great shout. We paid €20m for Deivid Washington

Such a shame this transfer didnt work out. Wish him and his mad balloon celebration all the best. Cheers Mr Nkunku

Where the hell are Milan finding money from? Aren’t Italian clubs notoriously bankrupt? Perplexing. Fee mooted at around €40M + add ons so I’m not sure what that is in proper money.

You are right, we don't know whats going on... but we can have an educated guess.

It is clear that neither of them are in the first team picture. It's clear that they are both on high salaries. It is clear that there is not a host of clubs all lining up to buy them and pay those high salaries. It is clear that Chelsea want them gone, and would probably accept a free transfer if it got their wages off the books.

They both have agents. If they wanted to, they could both get those agents to call around and say "look, our client is available for a low/nominal fee or free transfer. To get a move to your club my client will slash his salary by 25-75% to make it happen.".

I simply do not believe that no other club would take them if their salary was anywhere near affordable.

If they choose to stay here and collect the wage check, then fair play to them - that is their prerogative. But they are wasting their careers....

You said they had no professional pride because you assume they're not willing to tone down any salary demand. That's harsh, considering we don't know for sure (and educated guesses can be as wrong as uneducated ones) what's going on with regard of offers from other clubs or what's going on in their minds. Believe what you want, but it's as speculative as the nonsense from some Twatter "in the know" types.

We actually don't know that. It's equally possible that clubs are happy to compromise on wages for the player, but aren't interested in meeting our transfer fee. The club does not seem interested in selling for a nominal fee but are looking to recoup book value, as already evidenced by sales.

We could even speculate that the 'bomb squad' are acting on legal advice to stay put; the new FIFA rules give them greater scope to terminate their contract with or without just cause, and any future club is no longer liable to compensate Chelsea.

If they're not played they can simply end their contract and arrange a move with a new club.

Very goood deal for us, considering how his career went here. And how on earth, we managed to agree sell-on clauses for every departure? 😁

I guess Xavi Simmons is imminent now..

Signed for £55m. Selling for £36m.

Do the boring accountancy nonsense (2 years of a 6 year deal) and we've about broke even on his book value.

£20m wages paid over the two years and £20m written off his value.

An all round cluster f**k of a transfer and wasted two years of his and our time. Things could have been different if not for that injury.

Best of luck in Italy where the pace should suit him much better.
