Corona Virus?

With tonight's match between Arsenal and City called off, how else do you see the Corona Virus impacting the season?

At first it appeared that the season could be completed by playing behind closed doors. With Chelsea only playing 3 of their next ten games at home I felt this would be an advantage but now even this looks a forlorn hope. I'm slowly coming round to the view that season will not finish.

If this did happen, how should the league placings be determined. Who should get CL spots and should Man City's ban be carried over?

Should Liverpool just be handed the PL Trophy?

This raises a lot of questions.

End the season in the current positions for next season.

No trophies given out as the full season couldn't be played.

Liverpool remain without a Premier League title, couldn't have wrote it better myself. Or if they do give them the title it'll forever be tainted as the league never finished.

I honestly can't see how another game will be played at Stamford Bridge in the next two months. I think the match going fans are in for a huge disappointment.

Unusually our next 4 matches are all away from home and by then the Government will have banned gatherings of over a 1000 in public places.

At least QPR will get to finish the season.

Meant to be in London for a month from mid April for a course. I was hoping to finally see my first live Chels game traveling from Perth, Australia - all this news surrounding Covid-19 is starting to make me think that seeing them play might not be a possibility.... shiiiiiiiiiit

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days. Yesterday was the start of the Cheltenham Festival, arguably the biggest sporting event of the year. Normally 250,000 attend the festival. There have been matches in the Six Nations but I think the maximum attendance at each game is 80,000.

I suspect the Government, health authorities and sporting authorities will see what happens post Cheltenham. If there are large numbers of people diagnosed with the virus, pressure will mount to cancel events. It will be a pain not be able to go to the Bridge again this season. If so, would there be a refund on season tickets? And if, so who would pay? There is also the impact on local business e.g. pubs and cafes. Goodness knows how much money is spent in pubs near football grounds.

As RIP Mourinho has said, if Liverpool win the league, their title would be tainted.

I hate the play the empty stadium thing, what's the point? It's more depressing than no football. I reckon the season should be called off, of course it will cause huge financial lose, but the short term pain is worth it

The number of cases is not going to drop at this point. In fact all the evidence is there for the number to up at a quicker rate. This alone will force the government to take additional measures along the lines that other countries are taking. How Cheltenham has gone ahead is beyond me. The numbers were going to go up without Cheltenham anyway. Large numbers on the tube just isn't going to happen. Hope I'm wrong but with the next home game being against Watford on 12th April I just can't see it.

Liverpool should do the honourable thing and refuse the PL Trophy if they want to remain a beacon of morality.

Playing behind closed doors is the best we can hope for but with this mornings cancelation of the City v Arsenal match, because of a potential infection among players, I suspect the PL could decide to postpone all matches at some point.

Agree, the number of cases isn't going to drop at this point. In the last last few days there have been large increases in the number of people who have been diagnosed withe viruses.

City's game with Arsenal has been cancelled due to players from the latter having contact with the owner of Olympiakos and possibly players from that side yet UEFA has refused to cancel the game between Wolves and the Greek side. The game is being played behind closed doors but still.

A number of games are still being broadcast but even if they are of matches played behind closed doors is there still a risk of staff who work for the broadcasters spreading the virus as they move around the country and beyond?

So many things to consider.

If it ends up like Italy which is a big possibility I think we're in for a lot of cancellations of sport. I work in London and there's already arrangements for me to work at home so I think plans are in process. This virus is going to be around for a long time also. Olympics, Euros all in doubt. Especially the Euros considering its not just in one country this time. It's split up over various different countries and you're going to have a lot of fans travelling all over europe.

Scrap the table and start again...[emoji23][emoji23] Liverpool still doesn't have a title but they will now complain until the end of time that we should of won 19/20 blah blah blah blah.....[emoji23]

My Fiancé company she's in pharmaceutical (Drug Safely) has closed globally 5 confirmed cases. My office (am in UCaaS) closed globally also one employee potentially has it waiting in test results now.

This is going to hit the elderly and poor the most and I don't understand why we haven't stopped flights from high risk areas ams quarantine anyone coming home for two weeks. It boggles my mind, it seems government is putting Wealth over Health.

I was reading an article about Northern Italy with the small businessman being very worried by restrictions there as they still need to make money and if they have no customers they will be in trouble.

Whether intended or not this could create a major economic crisis.

Bumping my post in the hopes of getting some clarity, should I stay at home my fellow Chelsea fans?... ?

Last night Nadine Dorries a minister in the U.K. Government announced she was going in to self isolation after being diagnosed with the virus. Will be interesting to see if that has an impact on Government thinking. For those who know their 19th century history will be aware of the stench caused by poor drainage in and and around the Thames. It wasn't until the stench hit the Houses of Parliament that the Government took action. Will we see a repeat?

Apparently Dorries attended a reception at 10 Downing Street last week. Could that result in 10 Downing Street having to shut. Unless plans have changed since I have up work, I know where staff in Number Ten would relocate to.

The uncertainty is causing carnage on the stock markets.

My wife works for a cruise company and they are already in serious trouble. They are taking more cancelations than bookings. In fact they aren't taking any bookings. How long can any business operate without any cash coming in?

The experts are already saying this will tip us into recession. I can't see the club refunding season ticket holders. No club will want that. They will want to postpone matches to start with but so much is up in the air (including the virus) that nobody knows where this is heading.
