Why would they pick a backup keeper who has barely played over a promising youngster who's had a great season?

 
According to Roy Keane, Hodgson has only had the squad for tree training sessions so far. Not sure how beneficial that will be.

 
This England team is f**king appaling, just so mediocre everywhere I look.

I assume Hart, Cole, Terry and Cahill will walk back into the side, but other than that still so poor everywhere...

Parker works hard but he's not particularly gifted.

Gerrard is only there on reputation and his main skill seems to be flying in an injuring people.

Downing is a joke and how he's even in the squad i have no idea

Milner works hard, but again, not great player

Young is just a c**t from Stevenage

Carroll is like a horse playing with a giant bouncy ball.

I still feel Hodgson is picking Liverpool players simply to try and make amends for his poor run as manager... how else can you possibly explain the likes of Glen Johnson, Downing, Caroll, Henderson, Gerrard, etc... all being in the squad..

 
well barry is out, that's a good thing in my opinion...he's sh*t at international level as the world cup showed...would rather frank play in disciplined role next to parker than him

Amusing stuff. Even funnier when you ignore the bit in square brackets inserted by the Gerrard-loving Guardian journo.

Good to see the new manager has noticed there's an issue with Gerrard giving the ball away all the time. I think it was 65 times in the 5 games at the last world cup.

 
he has become more of a myth in an england shirt in recent years than ever...can hardly remember him having a good game and yet succeeds in escaping criticism at every turn...fact he has become a fading force in the league also goes under the radar...that's why i get so annoyed that frank is dropped to the bench in so many pundits minds so easily, despite the fact that if you compare careers, he has achieved and played at the highest level ona far more regular basis and has the medals to prove it

You can actually just about get 11 alright players but usually that's not enough:

Hart

Jones Cahill Terry Cole

Parker Lampard

Walcott Gerrard Young

Rooney

This doesn't sound that bad except for the lack of creavity which is usual for all England sides. 1/2 Final seems possible but I can't honestly see you beyond that. The defence and goalkeeper are rock solid, defensive midfield also. It's just that I can't see this side scoring many goals. Good luck anyway, but I am still rooting for Germany - too much exciting talent there and a great coach unlike Hodgson.

 
Who has been picked to replace Barry? Carrick surely. He had a great year for United and was always better than Barry in the first place.

 
Carrick is being a crybaby and wants to be assured a first team spot. While he does have a point and should be a dead cert in the first team, he's going about it the wrong way and at this moment in time doesn't deserve to represent his country.

 
The squad numbers came out and Frank got 8, with Gerrard taking 4. Petty, but I always hated seeing Frank in a non-8 jersey.

 
More bad news for England. Frank Lampard pulls up in training today with a thigh injury. The Football Association have said he will be assessed by the medical team and scanned tomorrow. Jordan Henderson is put on standby notice as cover whilst Lampard continues to be monitored

 
frank take the summer off mate and save yourself for a team that really appreciates you...would be sad for him because that will surely end his international career, but will be hilarious to see henderson try and take his place

 
Henderson will not be nearly good enough to take Franks role, gutted for Frank as it will be his last international tournament but a summers rest will benefit Chelsea for next season.

 
If Lamps is out and Henderson get's called up then England won't get out of the group. How all these Liverpool players have made it into the team or are on standby i will never know.

 
What a relief.

Frank will be nice and fresh for us next season, sad for him I know, but great for us.

 
He'll only be definately out of Euros if the injury can be proven to Uefa that it happened after the 29th may deadline. (fact courtesy of Phillipe Auclair.
