Whilst I thought we were great yesterday in responding to Liverpool's threat I am not convinced that this was the managers tactics.Did we watch the same match? The tactics were brilliant and we got the job done.
Maresca's gameplan is always control. We had 35% possession yesterday. Either Maresca has done a complete U-turn on his philosophy 34 games into the season and played to our players strengths for once or we won in spite of him.Whilst I thought we were great yesterday in responding to Liverpool's threat I am not convinced that this was the managers tactics.
I think a little from pot a, a little from pot b. At the start it looked like we had a genuine game plan to move the ball forward more quickly. There were some noticable longer balls forward, and we generally looked to be playing quicker. As the game progressed and liverpool got into it, we sat deeper, and had to dig in without possession (something I dont think was in the gameplan, or Marsecas instructions).Maresca's gameplan is always control. Bang on. My thoughts exactlyMaresca's gameplan is always control. We had 35% possession yesterday. Either Maresca has done a complete U-turn on his philosophy 34 games into the season and played to our players strengths for once or we won in spite of him.
Ah yes, you're right. I think we played the way we did despite Maresca in responding to the threat that we were under by a team that carried the same intensity as they normally did but not the cutting edge, leaving openings for us to exploit. Absolutely no way Grandmaster Flash has got that all stored in his locker. No i think the players problem solved drawing upon their instinctive counter attacking drive. Let's not forget he hates all this basketball type of football.Which do you think it was?
It's hard to get a grasp on what Maresca actually wants, but Sunday's performance was hardly groundbreaking. The mid block/quick transition was a staple this first half of the season. Hell, even during our sh*t period we tried the same game plan against City at the Etihad. Just the execution and performances were horrific. (and Sanchez being Sanchez).Ah yes, you're right. He has already said we played the way he did not want us to play, but Liverpool made it not possible to play as he wanted dus to.Maresca's gameplan is always control. We had 35% possession yesterday. What a bizarre thing to say after a win.He has already said we played the way he did not want us to play, but Liverpool made it not possible to play as he wanted dus to.
Have no fear, Eddie howe has no interest in controlling possession. Maresca ball will be back on Sunday

Is his belief on his way of playing the game. What a bizarre thing to say after a win.
I think you maybe right... does him being in the team also lead to Palmer finding more space in which to play ?It's hard to get a grasp on what Maresca actually wants, but Sunday's performance was hardly groundbreaking. We're just a different beast when Lavia is in the team.
