Mauro Icardi

I think the Batshuayi comparisons are a little off, Icardi has been captain of big club for 3 seasons, he is a leader and a fighter, completely different strengths mentally.

Both are quality finishers, but icardi is much more intelligent and has better awareness.

He would be a great addition if we can afford it, and if it what the manager wants. He seems made for premier league.

We're signing Icardi, you heard it here first.
In fact, Icardi will be this year's Alex Sandro for me.
Day 1:
Have we signed Mauro Icardi?
No.
Stay tuned for more news tomorrow.

This is great stuff man

Pretty identical with each other.

Batshuayi can't hold a ball up, Icardi can, Batshuayi isn't as good linking up with other attackers as Icardi, Batshuayi isn't as physically imposing as Icardi and Batshuayi has a fraction of his heading ability. The only thing in common they have is Icardi and Batshuayi are both clinical in front of goal. In all other facets Icardi is a lot better.

I'm going to start this off by saying these little 'stat boards' people post are such sh*te. I remember people posting one of Townsend having better stats than Bale in 2013.

Lets look at it though. Icardi is better at heading? Your picture shows Bats wins more headed duels.

Icardi better link up play? Bats has more assists per 90 on your picture.

But yeah, Icardi ain't like Kane.

"Icardi better link up play? Bats has more assists per 90 on your picture."

This isn't a fair way to look at it, it doesn't show how those assists were made. It could have been a simple flick on or a 5 yard pass

The key stats from that in terms of build up play of "key passes" and "chances created". The fact Icardi is making basically double than Michy gives some indication that Icardi is better at linking up the play

Icardi is an absolute c**t, the type of player that you'd love to have on your team but hate to play against. He's primarily a poacher and that's what he does best but that doesn't mean he's useless in other areas, he's actually pretty decent with the ball at his feet, has decent pace and a great first touch

He's effectively carried a very poor Inter Milan team these last few years and is a nightmare at times for defenders, like I said he's a prick in a similar way to Costa and knows all the tricks and dark arts

you've just deconstructed your own argument here. Those 'key passes' or 'chances created' could be a simple 2 yard pass within the area (where Icardi usually is as he does very little out of the box) for a shooting opportunity.

Thank you for helping me show how sh*te stats can be.

He's totally worth the money, a leader in attack and very cheeky in front of the goal. Can also pass the ball into space if needed.

That's good to know, I think the majority of our players have been 'too nice', need character, bravery and bit of a street fighter to be successful, especially against those less talented but physical teams.

The payout clause is still huge through, I guess if he's keen, we should cut a manageable deal say 70M, or send Batshuayi the other way.

People write of Batshuayi for being limited outside the box but want Icardi?

Ok then.
It’s his first touch which is terrible Icardi has a great first touch. He is not an all action striker but much better than batshuayi

Icardi i think is less a matter of ability and more of will. He's got a solid touch in my view. Very good at making space for himself in the box. But he rarely chooses to come deep and get involved in the buildup. Spalletti describes it as his key weakness (beyond stealing his teammates wives of course)

He would fit in well at Chelsea then

Getting ahead of myself here... but is Icardi the striker we need next season? It seems Morata is destined for the second striker spot, be it here or at another club. Admittedly at first signing Giroud didn’t really excite me but he has definitely grown on me. Yet it’s really hard to get excited about a striker that doesn’t score a bucket full of goals. Is Icardi the the all round striker we’re craving? And for those more in the know than me, would he ever leave Milan? Gut instinct from what i’ve read suggests he could spend a long time at Inter.

Yes, I think he is. This guy has everything Morata lacks. He fights, he scores with his feet, his link up play isn't on Giroud's level, but it's better than Costa's and certainly better than current form Morata's. His finishing is as good as Costa's, his heading ability as good as Morata's, he won't bottle it or easily lose his confidence like Morata. Icardi is in the same position Aguero was in before he moved to City. If he ever wants to leave Inter, everybody will want him. Honestly, every penny we spent on Morata would have been better spent on Icardi, Inter are being smart though and they keep giving him a new deal every season. The only thing I would worry about is that he is a bit of a prick. As long as it doesn't effect the team or his performances negatively, then I wouldn't really care.

There's a lad in Germany who is a forward and I think he'll be quality, as he is already a pretty damn good player. That guy is Timo Werner. I think he'd be a great buy for us
