SPOILERS - Game of Thrones

Another poor episode by GoT standards tbh.

Amazing that they managed to land 3 perfect hits on a Dragon miles away and kill it but all 20(?) ships firing at the same time at Dany and her Dragon, which was much closer after Dany had flew at them, and couldn't land a single hit.

And ofc it's Euron on the gun. Dragons seem really underwhelming against Cersei's army, how where they ever a threat in the first place if they can be killed that easily?

the arrows he was shooting were basically torpedos.

I am still enjoying it very much, but the last episode has taken a bit of a dip by its usual very high standards it has to be said.

Here's hoping the next two episodes are awesome.

I'm getting a bit frustrated reading all the negativity surrounding the past few episodes (or seasons) of GOT.

Yes everyone is fast-travelling everywhere. Westeros seems about as vast as my local Lidl to traverse nowadays. But there is no time left for long story arcs, following a couple of characters slowly by horse down the King's Road, chatting, like Brienne and Pod used to do, or the Hound and Arya. This has been the case since season 7.

Yes the most recent episode felt like two episodes crammed into one. Again, no time left. They needed to get to King's Landing ASAP.

Yes things have gone a bit 'Hollywood'. Euron's arrows seem more akin to homing missiles, taking down the dragon with ease with multiple shots. Why didn't Dany just circle around behind the ships and torch the lot? And how did Euron know Dany and her ships would be there right at that moment? Who cares. Because story. Need.

But if any of the above spoils your enjoyment, you need to have a word with yourself. GOT became a very different beast after season 4/5, when it ran out of source material. The actors are probably sick of their roles, wanting to move to something else. Benioff and Weiss are off to do Star Wars. As a result of all this, a lot of lazy shortcuts have been made, out of necessity. There quite simply is no running time left to do long, well-thought out stuff, intricate battles (like the Battle of Blackwater), watching people pore over maps for episodes at a time, a la Stannis Baratheon. We're in the endgame now people.

Just enjoy it while it lasts. You won't see another show like it for years to come.

The big frustration is that it's a different show now from what it was at the start. The early seasons were full of tense political infighting with smart characters all trying to outwit each other, all against a brutal backdrop where anyone could be killed at any moment.

Now it's all about the big epic showpieces featuring the world's worst tactics, very little politics and every character acting like idiots (has Tyrion done anything smart in the last 3 seasons?). Characters now have plot armor and constant 'badass' moments, It used to take entire seasons to travel across the continent, now everyone teleports around, fleets of ships are somehow able to sneak up upon a dragon and you have giant crossbows that have power comparable to a modern naval ship.

It used to be a smart, tightly written show where you genuinely didn't know where it was going. Now it's a dumb hollywood blockbuster where all the characters are idiots and they care more about pandering to fans than the brutal realism of the early series. If the first 2-3 series had the writing of the last 2-3 series, it would have never have become the phenomenon it is.

Can completely understand what you're saying, but with that being said, the criticism is very valid.

Things like this spoil many people's enjoyment on a daily, they just don't realise it, there's a reason TWD lost its popularity when it started to become ridiculous, it was one of the highest watched TV shows ever at one point, now the ratings can't stop declining. Obviously, if you've invested a lot of time into a show you just want to see it out, but you can't be upset with other people calling out bad writing and a bad direction in the plot driven by the directors. It might seem that people are being picky, but if this was GOT from the get-go, you probably would've avoided it, but since season 4 and how great the early seasons were and how much investment and enjoyment you have in it, you want to see it out and enjoy it as much as you can.

I mean even I'm still watching it, I've invested that much time into it there are only 2 episodes left, there are a few things I'm keen on wanting to see (Danerys, Varys and Tyrion) are the 3 most interesting conclusions for me at the moment.

Plus criticism is important for showrunners, otherwise, how will they know on how to improve in the future? I'm sure D&D will be taking notes of this when they're working on Star Wars, hopefully for their sake. Especially after the reception TLJ got from fans, expressing your views on something you don't like is pretty essential to improving future products.

i think the writers of the tv show have gone the same way as the books author, heads disappeared up own backsides

I enjoy the episodes, but it leaves a bad aftertaste.

I was genuinely on the edge of my sofa throughout Episode 3, and my FitBit had me at around 100 bpm throughout. That feeling of melancholy afterwards is what hits me the most. The teleportation doesn't bother me. In fact, I would wager one of Varys or Sansa sent a raven to Cersei to notify her of Dany's impending visit back to Dragonstone. That would explain Euron teleporting. He knew and was setting an ambush. We might find out in the coming episodes.

The thing that really annoys me, is some of the writing decisions. Deciding not to show Sansa and Arya's reaction to the biggest revelation in the entire series. How Jon was built up to be the one to kill the Night King (The Hardhome stare, the Beyond the Wall showdown, the entire reason we're lead to believe he's been brought back to life), but no Arya comes in and snatches the kill. The complete lack of plot behind the White Walkers. The 'embodiment of death' bullsh*t doesn't wash with me, especially when you see white walkers show mercy, and the wights show empathy for their fellow comrades (trying to free the captive in last season etc).

Shall I go on?

I'm tired of people asking others to stop being critical. I f**king love this series and I've been in love with this story since I first read Game of Thrones. I'll enjoy the show, but I won't pretend I'm not disappointed with the direction they're going in and some of the plot decisions they've made.

I'll take this as you've read a leak of some sort?

Pretty sh*tty move pal.
No. I'm basing it on the fact that a few times people have said 'maybe we'll find out next episode' and it never happens.

Maybe this ep we were gonna find out what bran was doing during the battle? maybe we'd find out more about the white walkers? Nope.

Ah fair play. Sorry. Then I would agree with you.

It's the hope that kills ya

Arya & The Hound are like the Odd Couple, but they will team up to take down Cersei & The Mountain - Watch
