Nope, that was another good game. I thought Japan were in control until Drogba come on. As soon as he came on Japan shat themselves
I would have liked to have seen him score, but his presence certainly galvanised the team!

No, it was only early evening here…but you never emailed me to say you were staying up we could have had a night cap... :ATT1231304:

Aw!  I could have had a wee dram with you!   :DiNNer:

I honestly think England will be a decent prospect at the Euro's in 2016 once Gerrard, Rooney, Johnson and Baines have all been kicked out of the squad, right now the younger lads are carrying the burden of the remnants of the overrated generation.

Am I the only one who got up in the middle of the night to watch Drogba?
I recorded the game and watched it at 8am. I thought Cote D'Ivoire were always likely to score. They seemed to force the issue too much though which means they'll probably come unstuck against better opponents.

Drogba as a sub isn't a bad idea as Ivory Coast will be better chasing a game than holding onto a lead. Drogba, like he proved last night, can change the game for them and give them a chance even if they are behind.

Italy recorded the highest pass accuracy percentage of any world cup game since 1966.

Shows how f**king woeful our midfield was.
Our passing accuracy was 2nd best so far I believe. I think it was more due to the fact that pressing for 90 minutes was going to knacker the players in that heat. Italy barley pressed us either.

Patrick Barclay has just described last night's game as "a situation where England could have done with John Terry".

Yes, underlined by Pirlo's "Accurate Passes" very nearly equalling Gerrard+Henderson combined total --  and Pirlo+de Rossi together almost doubled the England duo's contribution.

Perhaps this influenced Luca to forecast that "Italy has a little more than England" ?

And just how good pirlo is! Honestly I was laughing at how good he was yesterday. He just makes it look so easy and is always at least one step ahead of everyone else. He knows what pass he is going to make before he even has the ball

That is true, but we were behind for the majority of the game and Italy had no reason to press up and attempt to cut out passes until we got to the edge of the box, while we seemed content to let Pirlo literally walk around the field for long periods of the game just playing 1-2's with anyone he felt like as the minutes slipped away.

In the build up I couldn't believe so many pundits were dismissing Italy all over again, just as they did two years ago...May not be good enough to win the World Cup but more than good enough to beat us

Old Roy could learn something from the Ivory Coast manager. Take a defender off, big striker on, 3 up front, wing backs charging in, get the lead, striker off, job done. Lambert could be the poor man's Drogba, Lampard is more likely to score a goal than Wilshire. There was another pathetic dive for Gerrard, thanks god the referee didn't fall for it.

Look in the dictionary for the word "Hypocrite" bet your bottom dollar in the meaning it will say "The British press"

Could have done with Ledley King more like.

According to Barclay he's a better defender than Terry (the man who captained the best best defense the Premier League has ever seen).
