I thought the Beatles never played another live gig after about 1965 or 66?
That's right - final (ticketed) gig at Candlestick Park San Francisco on 29 August, 1966. Of course, they played one more time together (outside of TV) on their office rooftop in Saville Row on Jan 31, 1969)

I was:

a) Indulging in a little bit of fanciful fantasy

B) Getting the thread back on topic

Thanks for being there

Across the Universe, In my Life, it's all too much.

Not going to get into any debate, but I think the Beatles are amazing, and pioneers. To call them un-musical, you've probably not llistened to them anywhere after they relseased Rubber Soul.

Anyway, from my little sentence from the top, I'll take In My Life, because I ahd a harp and Accoustic play it in the background while my wife and I were married outside a Castle, on a gloriously sunshining day in Scotland....overlooking the ocean. A good memory for a great song

Paperback Writer.

What's everyones fav' Stones song?

Mine?; Gimme Shelter.

Never been a Beatles fan, always preferred the Stones who played kick-arse blues & rock n' roll not wishy pop!

Best of a bad lot would be "I am the Walrus"

Yep always been a far more of a Stones man than a Beatles man myself too.

Hard to pick a fave, above two are good calls but today i think i will plump for Tumblin' Dice.

If that doesnt make you want to shake your hips and drnk beer then you must be dead.

I saw the Stones in 1972, just before they were all killed in that horrific hot air balloon disatser at Mick and Bianca's wedding.

This was the set list...

1. Brown sugar

2. Let's spend the night together

3. Rip this joint

4. Tumbling Dice

5. Live with me

6. Stray cat blues

7. Sway

8. All down the line

9. Sweet Virginia

10. Country honk

11. Wild horses

12. Rocks off

13. Bitch

14. Happy

15. Midnight Rambler

16. Dead Flowers

17. Out of time

18. Jumping Jack Flash

19. Gimme shelter

20. Sympathy for the devil

It was a cracking gig - one I'll never, ever forget

Agreed, ahead of their time and unique songs. Innovative music with a deeper meaning, even though some of it comes from John's acid trips.

Made music what it is and surely inspired a lot of the bands that came after them.

Agreed mate,

listen, if there was no Beatles, there would be no Ozzy, and no Black Sabbath, and then no.......... Like them or not, think they are poppy or not, they still influenced one hell of an amount of people!

Whereas I agree entirely that the Beatles were a hugely influential band I never really buy into claims that if band A didn't exist there would have been no band B, C and D. These people would still have formed bands, music would still have evolved and the great wheel would keep turning. Bands should of course be credited for being the first to do things (although every band was influenced by something and someone (apart from that 'Everything Changes But I still Feel The Same' band - nothing and nobody is as tedious as that!)

I do agree that the machine would keep turning, and if it wasn't the Beatles, it'd be someone else that we would be talking about. Facts are, in our lifetime, the machine gave us the Beatles so it is them who I feel have been one of the most infuencial bands ever. Also, Ozzy Osbourne did say, flat out, that he heard the Beatles and they were responsible for him getting into music. He then admits that his music turned out nothing like the Beatles, but he does say that if it hadn't been for the Beatles, then he'd never have gotten into music.

Therefore, I think you can say that if there had never been the Beatles, then there would never have been Ozzy, and so on! Who knows, maybe some other band might have influenced him at a later date, but we will never know. The Stone, Kinks, Who were all about then too, but none of them convinced Ozzy to start. So we have the Beatles to blame for Ozzy Osbourne!

Revolution is my favourite, although i'm a much much bigger fan of the Who
