Pathetic if that's the case,Inter need cash and we are trying to just give players.

How on Earth is it pathetic? This isn't a video game. We're not sat here playing FIFA with a cheat code. This is real money in real life. If Chelsea have ambitions to spend a large sum, for example, on Haaland, then they will have to use other means to try and secure remaining targets. We can't just spend £80mil on a wing back and then expect us to fork out £160m on Haaland; this isn't how businesses operate. It is not pathetic at all. Let PSG have him. It sums him up as a player. He's a journeyman; he will go to Paris because it's an easy buck. He's not interested in projects. Avoid him like the plague. We won't come across him unless we dump them out of the UCL at some point which is inevitable. We need TEAM players. We are the essence of the word TEAM. Hakimi is and individual and will fit in playing football with a load of other individuals.

No need to downplay PSG. They have as many chances to win the CL as we have - with absolute world-class players in the mix. Do people think little of Kimmich or Lewandowski or Neuer because they are playing for one of the biggest one-club leagues in Europe? Paris ain't a shabby town either.

Anyway, I guess PSG will do everything to win the CL right before the WorldCup in Qatar starts and Hakimi is the perfect fit for them. But £80m is crazy money.

PSG are a shambles of a club. World Class players? By that you just mean Mbappe right? Neymar certainly isn't and neither are the rest of his teammates. Bayern Munich are a team, they always have been. Kimmich, Lewa and Neuer are legitimate World Class talents but above all they actually have the right mentality and approach to the 'club is bigger' ethos Bayern have. Mbappe, Neymar and the rest of them at PSG are only in it for themselves. Hence why when they inevitably get dumped out of a European semi-final (inexcusable considering they don't step out of first gear in the league) they all start crying and throwing their dummies everywhere.

Awful club. Not fit to sit in the same echelons as Chelsea, for example.

Yep, world-class players like Marquinhos, Verratti, Mbappé, Neymar with Cavani+Thiago Silva not too long ago - maybe joined by an imho world-class Hakimi soon. They've been to the CL-final with Tuchel, kicked out Bayern Munich last time.

But the bias may be strong with you so no need to argue over that.

I love the passion and enthusiasm, even if I disagree with the majority of that. Also Neymar is world class, no matter how much the media tries to portray him as petulant, which he is tbf. They also have other players Verratti and Marquinhos, who we would love to have, Donnarumma who will be a huge signing for them. Lets not forget PSG are a very big team, with lots of money, playing in a very attractive city. The league might be of a poor standard in comparison, but players will sign for them based on a good Champions League run. If we sign Hakimi happy days, if we don't, then it was not really a priority position for us anyway. But we don't want to sound bitter, and start slating the player's ambitions etc, when we know very little about the mechanics of the deal. For all we know, we didn't even put in a concrete bid, or maybe PSG's will be the only one accepted and thus he goes there.

I understand that these are big-name players, but we throw the title World Class around willy-nilly. What would be your definition of a World Class player? Mine would be that of a player who is consistently performing to a very high standard and is contributing significantly to his teams successes at any given time in that period. Either than or a player that has exceptional individual statistics. Neymar had 9 goals and 6 assists in Ligue 1 last season with no Championship win. 6 goals and 3 assists in the UCL is not a shabby return at all; however, they fell at the semi-final stage. A player known for immense petulance and completely ghosting on the big stage unless you include him in a generational Barca team with Messi and Suarez at their absolute BEST. Thiago Silva now plays for us so we can't include him. The rest I'm not even going to entertain, Cavani also now doesn't play for PSG. He's another man that completely dipped out on the challenge of Premier League football for the uncompetitive Uber Eats league.

For what it's worth, I am a firm believer that PSG's successes last season were mostly down to Tuchel. They now probably realise that. For them to have only lost 1-0 to that Bayern team is a feat in itself. Yes I have bias; however I try to be as open with it as possible. I appreciate class and effort when I see it.

neymar was injured heaps last season he is a world class player. He is not the only one at psg. But this thread was supposed to be about Hakimi. Psg will be a much stronger team if he goes there.

Sounds like we are about to miss out on him.

Which is fine but I hope we don't fall into the "bargain" trap again where we splash ungodly amounts of money on dross.

Kane will be at City before the window close, Sancho will almost certainly be at United. So it's obvious we need to look at the top shelf as well to compete with that.

Also Spurs have been to a final of the UCL not that long ago. PSG have shown that, despite all the money they spend in world class players, they have no team to win the UCL. They are a collection of fantastic players that do not play as a team. In contrast, Bayern and Chelsea have a collection of very good players that make up an even better team with a winning mentality. That's the difference.

It's totally offtopic but while the Spurs-Pool final was imho the most boring and embarrassing CL final for a loooong time PSG actually had a very tense fight with that Bayern side everybody seems to rate as one of THE benchmarks - kicking em out one season later as well. I totally agree that it's a weirdly, unlikable run club but they changed manager because of "club politics" (Tuchel <> Leonardo) and downgraded their coaching by quite a margin in the process while Chelsea did the complete opposite. Was Chelsea playing consistently as a "collection of very good players that made up an even better team with a winning mentality" pre Tuchel, did they even do it while he was there? If anything it shows that having worldclass players isn't going to win you anything nowadays if the manager isn't strong and good enough and the squad balanced enough - but that doesn't mean the players are "bad" per se or that this couldn't change quickly.

Anyway, Hakimi would have been brilliant for Chelsea and fits quite well into the PSG squad - although I see him much better within a 343 compared to the 433 PSG is playing as he's quite the liability defensivel.

My question is which team is going to follow the age old tradition of buying a duff player just off their summer tournament performance?

.....Denzel Dumfries anyone!?!

shame had really warmed up to him and saw it as a great boost offensively.

but if we can't get top targets, I think we should sit tight. why spend £40-50m on Adama Traore if you know he is not at the level you really want.

would prefer to commit to Reece and the Livramento lad (youth player of season I believe?) and buy another CB to replace Zouma. Could get Varane for 50m.

need to be buying the best talent than buying plan B/C just for sake of it. that is what got us Zappacosta, Emerson, Drinkwater etc.

I wish we had made a play at Sancho personally. gutting to see Utd get him for such a reasonable cost now.

I repeat were we ever interested in him or are the new European Champions being used by Inter to get PSG to agree to their price?

Offering just players when we know Inter need cash? Do me a favour. Same club that splashed big on Werner and Havertz last summer as we really wanted them now supposedly only offering players for someone we supposedly really want?

I dont buy it.

It's not £80m, it's 80m Euros, wich is £68,4m.

I think we can improve alot by adding a couple of attacking wingbacks options against all the low block teams in PL, probably just as important as a striker. The free space is usually out wide and adding 30+ goals/assists from players like Hakimi and Robin Gosens, compared to R.James (3) and Chilwells (8), would be an improvement.

We already have £30m from selling Tomori and Moses. It shouldn't be that hard to sell Emerson, Alonso and Zappacosta for £25m-£30m either.

Yea, I just copy/pasted that amount from the previous poster (no £-key on my keyboard..). £68,4m for Hakimi is still crazy money ;)

I agree with the rest although I think Chilwell has done quite well in the end - a right side with Hakimi and James as a RCB sounded lovely. But I never really get invested into these transfer sagas anymore (same with Haaland).

Hakimi - and now Traore - seem like unnecessary purchases. Why not have Livramento backup Reece? Tariq Lamptey was ready and we sold him; Livramento is ready and good enough. Let him stand behind Reece and focus on reinforcing of weakness

I’m sorry but Neymar is not a world class player. Maybe, MAYBE, he was when he was at Barca alongside that team; now though, no chance. He is an absolute bottler of the highest caliber. Add to that a very weak personality that gets petulant when he loses; an insatiable desire to cheat and dive; the perfect package for someone that most certainly isn’t world class. Don’t let his FIFA rating fool you.

I agree he has the talent though lacks with emotional intelligence and work effort.

A shame as he could be world class.
